DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on repairing, maintaining, and diagnosing a wide range of vehicles and construction equipment for safe and dependable operation. The work supports transportation services that rely on well-functioning machinery. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:


  • Mechanical Repair: Perform repairs on vehicles and equipment including engines, brakes, transmissions, and electrical components
  • Preventative Maintenance: Complete scheduled service tasks to keep vehicles and equipment in safe working condition
  • Diagnostic Work: Identify issues using tools and diagnostic equipment to decide proper repair methods
  • State Inspections: Carry out safety and emissions inspections and complete all required documentation
  • Equipment Upkeep: Maintain and service motorized hand tools and report missing or damaged parts
  • Safety Practices: Follow safety procedures, observe hazards, and take steps to prevent injuries

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
