Job description

Position Overview
The Barista supports daily café operations by preparing quality beverages, delivering warm and efficient guest service, maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards, and assisting the Café Supervisor with smooth floor operations. This role is part of a small café team and requires reliability, adaptability, professionalism, and the ability to work independently when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Barista amp; Guest Service
• Prepare high-quality espresso drinks, brewed coffee, and specialty beverages
• Provide warm, efficient guest service and resolve basic service issues
• Follow recipes and portion standards for consistency
• Encourage pastry sales and seasonal menu items

Shift Support amp; Leadership
• Serve as the acting point-of-contact only when the Café Supervisor is occupied
• Maintain bar flow and efficiency during busy periods
• Support training and onboarding when workforce development trainees begin
• Model professionalism, reliability, and positive culture on the café floor

Operations amp; Cleanliness
• Maintain the cleanliness of the bar, workstation, equipment, and customer areas
• Ensure SNHD health and safety requirements are followed
• Complete and maintain daily and weekly cleaning checklists
• Maintain café organization and help improve workflow when necessary

Inventory amp; Supplies
• Track low-stock items and alert the Café Supervisor
• Receive pastry or coffee deliveries when the Café Supervisor is off the floor
• Rotate stock properly to reduce waste

POS amp; Cash Handling
• Operate the Clover POS accurately
• Handle guest transactions and basic refunds/voids within policy
• Assist with cash counts and secure handling procedures as assigned

Administrative amp; Program Support
• Provide feedback on menu items, guest trends, and operational needs
• Assist with café-side tasks for promotions, signs, seasonal drinks, and displays
• Help maintain smooth café operations while the Café supervisor and Workforce
• Development Manager focuses on workforce development and business administration
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
• Espresso beverage preparation, coffee service, and basic food-service practices
• Guest service, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and maintain bar flow during busy periods
• Reliability, punctuality, professionalism, and initiatives
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Minimum of 6 months of barista or food-service experience preferred.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week and maintain consistent attendance.
Educational/Licensure Requirements
Educational Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Licensure Requirements
• Active, non-restricted Food Handler Safety Training Card, if required by local or state regulations.
Physical Requirements
The ability to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods during café service.
• Use hands and arms regularly to prepare beverages, operate café equipment, stock supplies, and complete cleaning tasks.
• Communicate effectively with guests, coworkers, supervisors, vendors, and trainees in a fast paced customer-service environment.
• Frequently bend, reach, twist, stoop, and move between the bar, storage areas, equipment, and guest service areas.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull café supplies, small equipment, product cases, and other items weighing up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Perform repetitive tasks such as steaming milk, pulling espresso shots, cleaning surfaces, restocking, washing dishes, and operating the POS system.
• Work in an environment with exposure to hot liquids, steam, food products, cleaning supplies, and café equipment.
• Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Starting pay: $15 per hour
