Job description

The Qi Laboratory in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to study endoplasmic reticulum (ER) protein quality control, membrane biology, and proteostasis in physiology and disease ( https://sites.google.com/view/qi-lab-at-uva/home ). Using a multidisciplinary approach integrating biochemistry, cell biology, proteomics, genetics, mouse models, and imaging, the Qi Lab seeks to elucidate fundamental mechanisms governing ER-associated degradation (ERAD), protein targeting and trafficking, membrane protein biogenesis, and organelle homeostasis.
The Qi Lab strives to foster a collaborative and rigorous scientific environment that emphasizes creativity, scientific independence, mentorship, and professional development. Trainees are encouraged to pursue innovative research questions and will receive strong support for career advancement in academia and biotechnology.
The laboratory is located within the Fontaine Research Park at the University of Virginia, with outstanding access to state-of-the-art facilities including cryo-electron microscopy, advanced imaging, proteomics, flow cytometry, transgenic mouse, and genomics cores.
Funded by the NIH and other foundations, we are seeking a candidate interested in the following areas:
ERAD in membrane protein biogenesis and organelle proteostasis. ERAD in protein targeting, translocation, and membrane trafficking.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, neuroscience, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
