Job description

Leidos is seeking a Software Architect who will focus on program CAS & FOSS as well as Infrastructure for full stack web applications. The CAS, FOSS, and Infrastructure Architect will join with other architects to provide high level design, process, and technical guidance to a team supporting development environments across a portfolio of Air Traffic Control programs, including the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) En-Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) system.
ERAM is the heart of the Next Generation (NextGen) Air Transportation System and the pulse of the National Airspace System, helping advance our transition from a ground-based system of air traffic control to a satellite-based system of air traffic management.
Responsibilities include ownership and execution of the engineering review process for software licenses; coordination and maintenance of the Software Architecture Document describing the environment and configuration of program COTS/FOSS; ownership of database architecture for web applications; hands-on database management; and ability to lead and guide others in database update activities.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Maintain software architecture document (SWAD) for ERAM operational, operational support, and factory environments.
  • As CAS SWAD owner ensure CAS/FOSS data records are up to date
  • Familiarize with the CAS/FOSS in the system to accumulate some expertise on how they are used within the system
  • Familiarize with system architecture in an effort to accumulate expertise for suggesting new CAS/FOSS for future SIGs
  • Participate in SIG/PRED preparation and reviews impacting CAS/FOSS
  • Consult as needed with software on design/implementation of solutions including CAS/FOSS
  • Participate in End Of Life assessment activities
  • Shepherd FOSS process and be FOSS manager approver
  • Shepherd NDI process and own NDI documentation
  • Monitor licensing of CAS/FOSS and coordinate with legal as needed
  • Interact with other programs to share best practices with regard to CAS/FOSS
  • Monitor security and problem reports for system CAS/FOSS
  • Determine whether CAS/FOSS has any limitations with regard to distribution to the FAA
  • Create keys and CSRs and maintain SSL certificates using OpenSSL.
  • Perform web application and database server maintenance on RHEL servers within the Gaithersburg and remote environments.
  • Separate bullet: Architect the maintenance and enhancement of web server configuration (Tomcat, Nginx) and RHEL server configuration using Ansible playbooks.
  • Handle software installation, software configuration, software updates, certificate and service account management, and DBA activities in MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle SE.

Basic Qualifications
- Requires a BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering with a minimum of 8+ years of prior relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 6+ years of prior relevant experience will also be considered
- Experience on a large-scale software development program in a software engineering leadership capacity
- Demonstrated understanding of full software development life cycle as well as proven experience with supporting highly critical customer missions.
- Understanding of SW configuration management tools and change tracking.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to demonstrate a commitment to personal and corporate excellence, ethical behavior and integrity.
- Planning and cost estimating experience
- Experience with execution under Waterfall and/or Agile development methodologies
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux Administration with SELinux
- Mid-level MySQL, SQL, Oracle SE, and PostgreSQL experience including clustering
- Experienced in: Tomcat, Nginx, systemd, Ansible, OpenSSL, Percona XtraDB Cluster
Preferred Qualifications
- Cost accounting / earned value management
- Familiarity with the National Air Space and FAA NextGen Air Traffic Control programs
- Background and development experience in ERAM Software Engineering, particularly Infrastructure and Support software products.
- Prior experience in ERAM SW process, ERAM SW architecture and business rhythms.
- Understanding of OS, CAS, COTS products and lifecycles, particularly LINUX OS.
