Job description

Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Job Description

This role focuses on designing and developing low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution systems and equipment for complex electrical applications, including data centers. You will create detailed engineering documentation, perform advanced electrical calculations, and support the design of switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers (MCCs), transformers, generators, and related electrical systems. You will ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and customer requirements while helping to build and strengthen the internal engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution systems and equipment for industrial and commercial applications, including data centers.
  • Create and review single-line diagrams to define overall power distribution architecture and system topology.
  • Prepare and review schematic and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate interconnections and clear documentation for installation and maintenance.
  • Develop detailed panel layouts, including component arrangement, clearances, and accessibility for switchgear, switchboards, and MCCs.
  • Generate and maintain accurate equipment specifications, ensuring that selected components meet project, customer, and code requirements.
  • Create comprehensive Bills of Material (BOMs) for power distribution equipment, panels, and electrical packages, including all major and ancillary components.
  • Perform electrical calculations such as load flow analysis, short-circuit calculations, and voltage drop calculations to validate system performance and reliability.
  • Conduct arc flash studies and protective device coordination to enhance system safety and ensure proper operation of protective devices.
  • Support the design and integration of switchgear, switchboards, MCCs, transformers, generators, and related electrical systems into complete power distribution solutions.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable NEC, IEEE, NEMA, UL, ANSI, and customer standards and requirements.
  • Develop and review electrical packages, including drawings, calculations, and documentation required for fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
  • Design and document panel layouts, power splices, main breakers, and transformer connections as part of complete power distribution systems.
  • Collaborate with shop personnel and the existing engineering team to support fabrication, assembly, and testing of electrical equipment.
  • Assist in bringing previously outsourced engineering work back in-house by contributing to processes, standards, and best practices.
  • Use AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical to produce accurate, detailed drawings and to update documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Troubleshoot design issues and provide technical support during manufacturing and installation to ensure systems meet design intent.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design methods, tools, and documentation to increase efficiency and quality within the engineering team.

Essential Skills
