Job Summary The Engineering Laboratory Technician II is responsible for conducting failure analysis and material characterization activities to identify electrical, thermal, and mechanical package failures. This role supports the development of new package technologies by performing analytical testing, preparing test samples, documenting findings, and contributing to root cause investigations. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on laboratory experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced engineering environment. Key Responsibilities F ailure Analysis & Material Characterization Conduct failure analysis to identify electrical, thermal, and mechanical package failures. Support root cause investigations for package-related issues and product reliability concerns. Analyze components, materials, and assemblies used in advanced packaging technologies. Assist engineering teams in understanding failure mechanisms and recommending corrective actions. Laboratory Testing & Sample Preparation Perform cross-sectioning and planar polishing of samples for analysis. Prepare specimens for microscopic and material characterization studies. Conduct optical microscopy inspections and imaging. Perform Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. Ensure accurate sample preparation and testing procedures in accordance with laboratory standards. Data Analysis & Reporting Collect, document, and organize test data and analysis results. Prepare technical reports summarizing findings, observations, and recommendations. Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation. Communicate results and technical information clearly to engineers and project stakeholders. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Work closely with engineering, development, and reliability teams to support new package technology initiatives. Participate in process improvement and analytical method development activities. Support material analysis, process development, and analytical tool development projects as needed. Contribute to a collaborative and team-oriented laboratory environment. Laboratory Operations & Safety Follow all laboratory safety procedures and company policies. Maintain laboratory equipment and report equipment issues as necessary. Ensure work areas remain organized, clean, and compliant with safety standards. Meet project deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and accura cy. Required Qualifications A ssociate's Degree (A.S.) in Science, Engineering, Materials Science, Electronics, or a related technical field. 2-4 years of experience in: Failure Analysis Material Analysis Process Development Analytical Tool Development Laboratory Testing Environment Experience with sample preparation techniques and laboratory testing procedures. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities. Ability to stand and perform laboratory work for at least 6 hours per day. Preferred Qualifications H ands-on experience with: Cross-sectioning (X-Section) Planar Polishing Optical Microscopy SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) EDX (Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) Experience analyzing printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electronic packaging technologies. Knowledge of packaging materials, material properties, and material behavior. Experience supporting semiconductor, electronics manufacturing, or advanced packaging environments. Familiarity with reliability testing and root cause analysis methodologies. Certifications (If Any) N o specific certifications required. Materials Analysis, Electronics Manufacturing, Quality, or Failure Analysis certifications are a plu s. Top Qualifications 2-4 years of experience in failure analysis, materials analysis, or process development. Hands-on experience with cross-sectioning, polishing, optical microscopy, and SEM/EDX analysis. Strong technical documentation and communication skills. Knowledge of electronic packaging, PCB analysis, and material characterization techniques. Ability to work collaboratively while managing multiple priorities in a laboratory environment.
