Job description

Data Center Field Installations Technician (L2)

Location: Lenoir, NC (50% onsite) with up to 50% travel to other U.S. data center locations

Duration: 6–12+ months with potential for extension and long-term opportunities


We are seeking a Data Center Field Installations Technician (L2) to support large-scale data center deployment and infrastructure projects. This role is part of a rapid response team responsible for supporting multiple data center locations, performing advanced troubleshooting, leading installation activities, and assisting with technical issue resolution.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with data center operations, fiber optic infrastructure, rack and stack deployments, structured cabling, and cooling systems. This position requires the ability to work independently, mentor junior technicians, and travel to support critical deployment activities across multiple sites.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead rack build and rack-and-stack activities for servers, storage, and network equipment
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic and copper cabling infrastructure
  • Utilize fiber testing equipment, including Fluke testers, to validate connectivity and performance
  • Interpret rack elevations, installation drawings, cabling schematics, and technical documentation
  • Install and validate power connections, PDUs, and redundant power configurations
  • Support implementation and validation of direct expansion (DX) and liquid cooling solutions
  • Perform system bring-up activities, hardware validation, and basic operating system installations
  • Conduct post-installation quality assurance checks, including cable audits, labeling verification, and power validation
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure issues and resolve deployment-related incidents
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior data center technicians
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and project teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Maintain accurate installation records, documentation, and progress reports
  • Participate in rapid-response deployments and support activities at multiple data center locations


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years of data center experience
  • Experience performing rack and stack deployments in production data center environments
  • Strong understanding of structured cabling, including fiber optic and copper infrastructure
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and testing fiber optic cabling
  • Experience using Fluke testing equipment
  • Knowledge of server, storage, and network hardware installation practices
  • Familiarity with power distribution systems, PDUs, dual-feed power, and redundancy concepts
  • Experience with liquid cooling technologies and airflow management best practices
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, MOPs, and installation documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while also leading and mentoring technicians
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to support multiple data center locations


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting hyperscale or enterprise data center environments
  • Knowledge of system imaging, operating system deployment, and hardware validation processes
  • Familiarity with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and installation quality standards
  • Experience working in fast-paced deployment or rapid-response environments

  • Ensure proper handling of liquid cooling systems and associated components
