What is tele optometry?

A Tele Optometry job involves providing remote eye care services using digital communication technology. Optometrists or technicians conduct vision exams, diagnose eye conditions, and manage patient care through virtual consultations. This allows patients to receive professional eye care from the comfort of their homes or local clinics without needing an in-person visit. Tele Optometry improves access to vision care, especially for those in rural or underserved areas.

What does a tele optometrist do?

A typical day for a Tele Optometrist involves conducting comprehensive eye exams, reviewing digital images, and providing consults via video calls or secure messaging platforms. You will interact directly with patients to assess vision concerns, prescribe corrective lenses, and manage ocular conditions, all from a remote location. Collaboration with onsite technicians, support staff, and sometimes other healthcare providers is common to ensure accurate assessments. The role often includes documenting findings in electronic health records and following up with patients as needed, providing flexibility and the ability to serve a diverse range of individuals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in tele optometry?

Success in Tele Optometry requires a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree, current optometry licensure, and strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making abilities. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, digital imaging systems, and electronic health records (EHRs) is essential for remote patient care. Outstanding verbal communication, empathy, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for building patient rapport and working independently. These skills ensure effective, high-quality eye care delivery in a virtual environment while maintaining patient trust and compliance.

Take your dental career beyond the traditional office setting. ExcelHealth Group is hiring a full-time Traveling General Dentist to deliver onsite dental care to residents of long-term care facilities across assigned coverage areas. This role is designed for a mission-driven dentist who wants variety, meaningful patient impact, strong operational support, and the opportunity to practice in fully licensed, well-equipped mobile dental clinics.

Role Type: Full-time traveling position requiring regular travel across assigned service areas, including overnight stays as needed based on facility schedules and patient care needs.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

· Make a direct difference for patients who may have limited access to routine dental care.

· Enjoy a mobile, travel-based role with variety in your workweek and no traditional office routine.

· Focus on patient care while supported by a clinic manager, dental assistant, patient transporter, scheduling, billing, and operational teams.

· Work with modern mobile equipment, tele dentistry support, and an in-house dental lab for dentures and repairs.

Who We Are:

ExcelHealth Group supports clinical teams that bring essential ancillary care directly to nursing facility residents. Our model combines compassionate care, mobile clinical operations, and centralized administrative support so providers can spend more time treating patients and less time managing logistics.

Through a national network of clinicians and support staff, we provide dentistry, optometry, podiatry, and audiology services tailored to the needs of long-term care communities.

What You’ll Do:

· Travel to nursing homes and long-term care facilities across assigned service areas to deliver care where patients need it most.

· Provide a broad range of dental services, including x-rays, cleanings, exams, extractions, fillings, partials, denture repairs, and denture fabrications.

· Leverage an in-house dental lab that CAD designs, fabricates, and 3-D prints high-quality dentures with digital backup records for efficient replacements.

· Use teledentistry support for urgent care coordination when appropriate.

Tools and Team Support:

· Practice in well-equipped, fully stocked mobile clinics designed to support a professional and comfortable care environment.

· Partner with a dedicated clinic manager, dental assistant, and patient transporter to keep each clinic day organized and patient-centered.

Requirements:

· Active dentist license in good standing, with any additional licensing requirements determined by the assigned coverage area.

· Ability and willingness to travel on a full-time basis across assigned service areas, including overnight stays as needed.

· Must comply with all applicable dental board rules, laws, and regulatory requirements governing dental practice, patient care, employment eligibility, workplace safety, privacy, and nondiscrimination.

What We Offer:

· Company-paid travel expenses, including meals, hotels, and fuel, using a company-issued credit card.

· Paid time off and paid holidays to support work-life balance.

· Health insurance reimbursement.

· Licensing reimbursement for eligible expenses.

· Employer-provided malpractice coverage.

· Basic vehicle maintenance support for travel-related needs.

Schedule and Travel:

· Full-time schedule, five days per week.

· Travel across assigned service areas is required, with overnight stays based on facility locations and business needs.

Compliance Statement:

ExcelHealth Group complies with all applicable employment, dental board, and regulatory requirements, including employment eligibility verification, workplace safety, privacy, and equal employment opportunity standards.
