Northrop Grumman is looking for a Senior Staff Chief Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals on the E-2D Program in Melbourne, FL.

Northrop Grumman is looking for a Chief Engineer for the Japan E-2D Development and Sustainment and E-2C Taiwan Programs, this function supports the Production IPT within Multi-Domain Command and Control (MDC2) business unit of the Global Surveillance Division part of the Aeronautics Sector. Production is responsible for E-2D development for our International Customers including Japan. This position reports to the MDC2 Engineering Director and to the Program Director for the Japan sub-IPT. This Chief Engineer is the responsible technical authority for all design, development and testing, including subcontracted elements, for this Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.

The CE maintains cognizance over technical activities within the Japan sub-IPT and ensures the program strategy is aligned with sound engineering processes in the development, test, production and sustainability phases. The CE ensures the decisions on the configuration of the deliverable product and the technical approaches achieve expected system performance, enables long-term program sustainment and meets technical requirements.

The CE provides guidance for all related technical activities and is responsible for the integrity of the product technical baselines. The CE coordinates with the other E-2D IPTs to ensure execution of the programs within an established cost and schedule baseline. The CE leads the baseline configuration management, ensures detail design approaches follow Sector processes and procedures, approves the top design/architecture approaches, and drives reuse of design concepts from across the Sector. The CE ensures a robust system engineering approach is executed for supporting the weapon system.

The successful applicant will have demonstrated knowledge and experience of aircraft systems (e.g. mission computing, communications, sensors, air vehicle). In addition, leadership and communication skills are important to help drive issues to closure and provide clear insight to leadership. Experience and ability to work Agile concepts across multiple fields including software, integration and test is required. Familiarity with tactical weapon system software development, avionics integration laboratories, flight test, and associated data reduction and analysis is required.

This position requires extended international travel with some trips extending over more than a single work week.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline AND 14 years of experience on manned or unmanned aircraft systems, OR a Master's degree in STEM AND 12 years of experience on manned or unmanned aircraft systems, OR a Ph.D. in STEM AND 9 years of experience on manned or unmanned aircraft systems.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience of aircraft systems (e.g. mission computing, communications, sensors, air vehicle).
  • Must have familiarity with leading large technical proposals, the ability to lead Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETRs) (e.g. SRR/SFR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FRR) and lead the customer through reviews of technical performance.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Experience with development and delivery of incremental capabilities to a fielded US Navy platform and/or fielded FMS platform.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Experience with E-2D development processes.
  • Experience with International Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) and Foreign Military Sales (FMS).
  • Knowledge of International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), International Licensing Requirements and procedures.
Primary Level Salary Range: $166,500.00 - $249,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
