Job Description
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and MUSC Health Florence are seeking an outstanding physician candidate for the role of Residency Associate Program Director, to assist in leading and growing a new Community Psychiatry Residency Program at the MUSC Health Leatherman Center for Behavioral Health in Florence, South Carolina, part of the MUSC Regional Health Network.
Based at the new Leatherman Center for Behavioral Health in Florence, the MUSC Florence Psychiatry Residency Program will offer the opportunity to initiate and grow a new community-based Psychiatry Residency Program, finalize the curriculum, recruit and mentor psychiatry residents and participate in medical student education, leadership and clinical care in the MUSC Health system.
Associate Program Director:
  • Assist the PD in the administrative and clinical oversight of the educational program
  • Assists the PD in ensuring compliance with MUSC-Regional Network's policies and procedures including but not limited to, those related to grievances, due process when action is taken to suspend or dismiss, not to promote, or not to renew the appointment of a resident, and employment and non-discrimination
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with the resident supervision policy and oversight including goals and objectives, procedure privileges, and educational work hours
  • Shares in the responsibility for program development and growth in adherence to ACGME accreditation requirements
  • Participate regularly in academic societies and in educational programs designed to enhance their educational and administrative skills
  • Attends at least 50% of structured educational activities including Journal club, and Grand rounds.
  • Take an active and professional role in administration, operations, resident teaching and evaluation, continuous program improvement, and faculty development

Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to relate to groups at all levels within the organization, including students, residents in training, office staff, faculty, and senior leadership. In addition, candidates should display initiative, a positive attitude, flexibility, commitment to institutional goals and objectives, and must hold themselves and others to the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct.

Leatherman Center of Behavioral Health
The MUSC Health Leatherman Behavioral Care Pavilion services will include:
  • A rapid access center to provide walk-in triage and assessment and offer transition to care.
  • Telepsychiatry services to strengthen access to psychiatric services throughout the region.
  • Sixteen adult and four adolescent beds for crisis services to rapidly stabilize patients.
  • Intensive Outpatient / Partial Hospitalization Programs that provide counseling services and medication management for adults and adolescents.
  • A 63-bed inpatient psychiatric unit to treat patients needing more acute care.
