Project Overview:

The Sunfish Solar Farm Project includes the design, procurement, and construction of Hecate Energy’s new solar farm on 6,000 non-contiguous acres in Lee Township, Calhoun County, in Southwest Michigan. It is about 40 miles southwest of Lansing and 20 miles northeast of Battle Creek.

Phase 2 will be configured as a ground-mounted solar farm with PV panels on galvanized steel tracker racking structures. It will include rows of single-axis

trackers, oriented in a north-south direction, that rotate the PV panels from east to west. By following the sun’s daily path, this configuration optimizes the amount of power the solar facility can produce.

Bechtel is responsible for project management, engineering design, technical integration, procurement, fabrication, construction, testing, commissioning, quality control, safety and other related services to design and construct the Sunfish Solar Farm.

Job Summary:

The Junior Labor Relations Representative provides essential administrative and coordination support to the Labor Relations team. This entry-level position plays a key role in supporting workforce onboarding, compliance, and union-related processes. Ideal for individuals seeking to build experience in labor relations within a fast-paced field or corporate environment. This position will assist with daily activities for both Labor Relations and Timekeeping. Also, requires the ability to maintain confidentiality with a strong ethical behavior in the workplace practices, a customer-service orientation with a demonstrated professional demeanor and communication style, flexibility, and commitment to meeting deadlines. This position could require overtime to be worked. #LI-SM2

Major Responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Labor Relations team.
  • Schedule and coordinate new hire orientations, including preparation of materials and communication with attendees.
  • Assist with coordination of pre-employment drug screenings and other onboarding compliance requirements.
  • Support the processing of new hire requisitions and track new hire status through onboarding milestones.
  • Help maintain accurate and up-to-date logs related to new hires, grievances, investigations, and compliance items.
  • Prepare and organize documentation for grievance procedures, investigations, and union communications.
  • Attend labor-related meetings or proceedings as needed and take detailed notes.
  • Support internal and external communications with union representatives and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely posting and maintenance of required site notices and labor materials.
  • Perform additional administrative tasks as assigned to support the Labor Relations function.
  • Coordination with Labor Relations to ensure prompt input of new hires into eTrack to account for time and attendance
  • Take photo of new hire and upload into eTrack for badge issuance
  • Assist timekeeper in daily attendance reporting and balancing of time in eTrack
  • Assist in Onboarding
  • Maintenance of craft employee files to include scanning for records retention
  • Any additional duties assigned by Labor Relations or Project Accounting Manager.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires a University Hire with 1-2 years of experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Prior experience supporting HR, labor relations, or onboarding processes is a plus.
  • Familiarity with standard administrative practices and office procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and customer service communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to interact professionally with union representatives, employees, and management.
  • Experience with document preparation, data entry, and tracking using spreadsheets or shared databases.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
  • Strong analytical and proactive problem-solving skills, with sound judgment and the ability to work independently to resolve routine issues.
  • Must be able to work flexibly hours, including overtime and weekends/holidays
