Job description

Sr Compliance and Approval Specialist
Position Overview:
Are you a compliance professional with a sharp eye for detail and a strong background in waste characterization? Valicor is seeking a Sr Compliance and Approval Specialist to manage regulatory compliance for all inbound waste material across our operations, including our 23 Non-Hazardous CWT facilities. In this role, you will protect our operations by minimizing compliance risks, ensuring 100% alignment with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, and the safety of our plant operators. You will serve as a critical bridge between our Commercial and Operations teams, executing rapid, thorough regulatory evaluations of new and existing waste profiles.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Waste Profile Approval: Review all new inbound waste profiles to ensure they contain complete analytical data and regulatory documentation required for safe, compliant acceptance.
  • Regulatory Evaluation: Conduct thorough technical and regulatory evaluations of waste streams, ensuring strict adherence to permit limits and facility capabilities.
  • Commercial Sales Support: Review, comment on, and approve profile opportunities within a strict 24-hour turnaround window to support sales pipeline velocity.
  • Permit & Record Management: Maintain accurate compliance databases; track permit expiration dates across facilities to ensure timely renewals.
  • Environmental Reporting: Support critical reporting pipelines, including waste management data, air emissions, stormwater compliance, and hazardous materials reporting.
  • Inspection Support: Assist site teams during regulatory agency inspections and draft technical responses to regulatory inquiries.
  • SOP & Policy Development: Continuously update company waste acceptance procedures, policies, and employee compliance training modules.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into waste-related compliance incidents and recommend robust corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Public Administration, or a closely related scientific/technical field.
  • Experience: 2 to 5 years of direct experience in environmental compliance and waste profile approvals.
  • Core Regulations: In-depth, working knowledge of EPA RCRA and Federal DOT Regulations is required.
  • Skills: Exceptional organizational, document management, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Tech Literacy: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and specialized compliance management software.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Company-centric Regulations: Familiarity with CWT Regulations (40 CFR Part 437) and Used Oil Regulations (40 CFR Part 279).
  • Industry Experience: Prior experience working at a waste treatment/disposal operation, specifically focusing on Non-Hazardous Industrial Wastewater treatment and Solidification.
  • Certifications: CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager), CEP (Certified Environmental Professional), or equivalent credentials.
  • Systems: Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and OSHA safety standards.
