Job description


SAIC is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to support Navy network automation and deployment programs at Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC PAC) in San Diego, CA. This role serves as a senior principal individual contributor responsible for full lifecycle software development, DevSecOps pipeline management, and cloud-native application delivery in direct support of Navy network automation and deployment capabilities.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in full-stack software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and containerized application development with a strong understanding of DoD software development standards and security requirements. This position requires direct engagement with government program managers, network engineers, and cross-functional development teams to deliver scalable, secure, and modern software solutions that enable the rapid automated provisioning of Naval network infrastructure worldwide.
This role operates with significant independence, serving as a senior technical authority on complex software engineering challenges in support of Navy zero-touch network deployment missions. The successful candidate will be a technically fluent senior principal capable of leading development activities from design through production deployment, driving modernization efforts, and delivering innovative software solutions that directly support the warfighter. The position requires the ability to serve as a prime technical contact and organizational spokesperson on significant software engineering matters requiring coordination across multiple teams and organizations.
THIS IS A REMOTE ROLE, MUST BE ABLE TO TRAVEL UP TO 10%
JOB DUTIES:
  • Serve as Senior Principal Software Engineer providing technical leadership across Navy network automation program software development, DevSecOps, and cloud-native application delivery efforts
  • Lead development activities from design through production deployment across Angular front-end and back-end software components supporting Navy network provisioning workflows
  • Design, develop, and deploy full-stack applications supporting automated network deployment and provisioning capabilities including IT service management workflow integrations and network source of truth API interactions
  • Architect and implement AWS cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code tools including Terraform and Pulumi; design and manage image registries, compute clusters, load balancers, databases, volumes, identity management, and networking architecture
  • Create and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines to test, build, lint, and scan containerized applications in accordance with DoD DevSecOps best practices
  • Dockerize, harden, deploy, and monitor React and Python data science and automation applications across classification domains in support of Navy network automation operational requirements
  • Develop and tune search and data management capabilities including ElasticSearch and PostgreSQL integrations within Navy network automation web application source code and databases
  • Design ADA-compliant interfaces and develop, review, and test Bootstrap front-end components supporting user-facing catalog and workflow automation tools
  • Develop Python and JavaScript automation scripts to support network data analysis, mapping, and automated provisioning workflows
  • Create and maintain MySQL and NoSQL database tables supporting program data management requirements
  • Modernize legacy applications by refactoring to current technology stacks and remediating security vulnerabilities in accordance with DoD security standards
  • Produce reports to detect PII, misclassified information, and redundant or inefficient data storage across program systems
  • Serve as organizational spokesperson and prime technical contact on significant software engineering matters requiring coordination between development teams, government stakeholders, and partner organizations
  • Support business development activities including technical proposal development, capability demonstrations, and customer relationship management

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.
  • 5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience with demonstrated senior principal-level contributions in DoD or government software development environments
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have an Active Secret Clearance to start
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Clearance after start
  • CompTIA Security + certification
  • Languages: Python, JavaScript, R
  • Front-End: React, Angular, Bootstrap
  • Back-End: SpringBoot, Python Flask, RShiny
  • Cloud: AWS (Terraform, Pulumi)
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, MySQL, NoSQL
  • DevSecOps: GitLab CI/CD, Docker, containerization
  • Data: Natural language processing, data mining, geospatial analysis

DESIRED SKILLS:
  • Experience supporting NIWC PAC, PEO Digital, or Navy network automation and deployment programs
  • Familiarity with network source of truth platforms, IT service management tools, automation platforms, or version control systems in a Navy or DoD network automation context
  • Experience developing automation tools supporting zero-touch network provisioning or infrastructure-as-code deployments
  • Background in network automation, SD-WAN, or C4ISR systems software development
  • Experience with ESRI GeoEvent or geospatial data format conversion tools
  • Familiarity with DoD DevSecOps Reference Design and Navy software factory standards
  • Experience with cross-domain application deployment and hardening in classified environments
  • Demonstrated experience leading development teams and driving agile software delivery in DoD program environments
  • Background in data science application development including text analysis, semantic analysis, and social media network modeling
  • Experience with natural language processing and search engine development including ElasticSearch tuning and optimization
  • Familiarity with Navy network automation program architecture including IT service management workflow automation, network source of truth integration, and automation platform-based network provisioning
