Job description

What We Are Looking For
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team that handles hydraulic simulations, Leak detection analysis and trainer configuration for liquid pipelines. The successful candidate will be a Technical subject matter expert for a CPM / RTTM leak detection implementation project. The primary Leak detection tool will be Pipeline Integrity Monitor (PIM). Depending on the background, the candidate may perform hydraulic simulations or trainer configuration for surface facilities, crude and natural gas liquids pipelines using Synergi Pipeline Simulator (SPS). The Engineer supports new and existing projects in Engineering and Operations through hydraulic simulation, design, and sizing various equipment to address system changes, improve operating efficiency, identify opportunities for improvement, mitigate risk, or address business questions.
Job level will be commensurate with experience and skill sets.
What You Will Do
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Developing and tuning Leak Detection Systems using AVEVA PIM package, starting from data collection to configuration, testing, and supporting the product in the production environment.
  • Alarm management, adjusting thresholds and resolving bugs to eliminate nuisance alarms.
  • Run steady state and transient simulations for single and multiphase flow using SPS and prepare technical reports for surface production facilities and pipelines.
  • Perform surge analysis and write technical reports to design relief and pressure protection systems and recommend operation set points.
  • Collaborating with Control Center operations to develop and update trainer systems, and manage scenarios.
  • Providing guidance to project engineers and third party engineering firms regarding pipeline design and equipment sizing.
  • Updating and patching servers and perform other support or maintenance activities associated with the LDS in Liquids Pipelines. This will include upgrading the LeakWarn LDS to AVEVA's Pipeline Integrity Monitor (PIM) system.
  • Work closely with the Control Center and the SCADA department in maintaining the connectivity between the LDS and SCADA supplied data and Keep the Leak Detection System in Main and Back up Control Rooms in Synch
  • Assist Pipeline Control and Operations when needed and provide after-hours support in order to verify alarms/alerts within the leak detection model

What You Need
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an accredited university strongly preferred
  • Related industry experience may be considered in place of a degree
  • Working knowledge of Fluid Mechanics or Hydraulics or Leak Detection or Pipeline Operations
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel
  • Travel will be limited, but must being willing to travel if necessary
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel)
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed

Preferred:
  • 7 or more years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry, preferably in pipeline operations
  • 5 or more years of experience with liquid pipeline simulation or Leak detection
  • Hands on programing capability (Fortran or Python or .net or Visual Studio) and basic database management skills (SQL)
  • Knowledge of PHMSA 49 CFR 195.452 (i)(3) including Mega Rule, California Assembly Bill 864 / CBAT, API 1130, 1149, and 1175
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware/software, OPC connections, and Process Controls.
  • Proficiency in electrical, control and instrumentation drawings
  • Knowledge of pipeline equipment, including rotating equipment (pumps/motors/engines) and efficiency optimization
  • Knowledge of the products and crude characteristics and batch tracking
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Self-motivated and requires little supervision

This position has the potential opportunity to work a hybrid work schedule with Monday through Wednesday in the office and Thursday and Friday remotely.
