What is the difference between Seismic Remote vs Seismic Technician?

AspectSeismic RemoteSeismic Technician
CertificationsSeismic Remote roles often require geophysical or seismic certifications, but may not require on-site technical licenses.Seismic Technicians typically need specialized technical certifications and on-site safety training.
Work EnvironmentPrimarily remote, involving data analysis, report preparation, and remote monitoring.On-site, involving equipment setup, maintenance, and field data collection.
Industry UsageUsed in exploration companies, remote data analysis, and project management.Common in field operations, exploration sites, and seismic survey projects.

Seismic Remote roles focus on remote data analysis and project coordination, while Seismic Technicians are hands-on, working directly with seismic equipment in the field. Both roles are essential in seismic exploration but differ mainly in work environment and daily tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Seismic Remote Operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Seismic Remote Operator, you need a solid understanding of geophysics principles, data acquisition, and analysis, often supported by a relevant STEM degree or technical certification. Familiarity with seismic data processing software such as SeisComP, OpendTect, or ProMAX, and experience with remote sensing systems are commonly required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help operators interpret complex data and coordinate with field teams. These competencies ensure accurate seismic monitoring, timely data delivery, and effective decision-making in exploration or hazard assessment.

How does a Seismic Remote specialist typically collaborate with onsite field teams and data analysts during a project?

As a Seismic Remote specialist, you play a key role in gathering and transmitting seismic data from remote locations to field teams and data analysts. Collaboration often occurs through regular virtual meetings, shared data platforms, and real-time communication tools. You'll work closely with onsite technicians to troubleshoot equipment and ensure data accuracy, while also coordinating with analysts to interpret the collected information. Building strong communication skills is essential, as much of the collaboration happens remotely and relies on clear, timely updates.

What are Seismic Remote jobs?

Seismic Remote jobs involve analyzing seismic data and conducting seismic surveys remotely, often using specialized software and equipment to assess subsurface geological structures. These positions are typically found in industries like oil and gas, environmental consulting, and geotechnical engineering. Remote seismic professionals may process and interpret seismic data, monitor for geohazards, or support exploration and drilling operations from a remote location. They often collaborate with field teams and use digital communication tools to share findings and recommendations.

Job description

Description

Rise Power Systems, a division of SMT, Inc., is seeking a Product Owner / Senior Mechanical Engineer - Power Distribution Equipment to join our growing team. This is a remote position with as needed travel to customers and Rise locations.

Overview

This  role combines product ownership with deep mechanical engineering  expertise to lead the development of mission-critical power distribution  equipment, including PDUs, RPPs, and other low-voltage electrical  equipment. The position bridges customer needs, product strategy, and  hands-on engineering to deliver reliable, compliant, and manufacturable  solutions.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Product Ownership & Strategy

  • Define product vision and lifecycle strategy for low voltage electrical equipment (RPP/HDPP/CDP)
  • Own  and      prioritize the product backlog, balancing customer requirements, safety, cost, and schedule working with Product Management and Sales
  • Translate customer and market needs into detailed technical requirements and specifications
  • Partner with sales, product management, field engineers, and customers to gather feedback and define product improvements
  • Support go-to-market activities including technical documentation, training, and product positioning

Mechanical Engineering Leadership

  • Lead mechanical design of enclosures, busbar structures, cable management, and thermal solutions
  • Develop CAD models, drawings, and BOMs for production
  • Perform thermal and structural analysis for high-power electrical assemblies
  • Ensure designs meet requirements for heat dissipation, fault conditions, and mechanical integrity
  • Drive design for manufacturability (DFM) and cost optimization

Cross-Functional Execution

  • Collaborate with electrical and firmware engineers on layout, clearances, and integration
  • Lead design reviews and ensure alignment across disciplines
  • Oversee prototyping, testing (thermal, short-circuit, environmental), and validation
  • Manage engineering changes and product releases

Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as UL, NEC, IEC, and ANSI
  • Support certification processes and regulatory submissions
  • Monitor field performance and lead root cause analysis for failures

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Electrical knowledge strongly preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in power distribution equipment, switchgear, or similar products
  • Proven experience in both product ownership/product management and hands-on mechanical design
  • Strong  understanding of low-voltage power systems, including PDUs, RPPs, and switchboards
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and PLM systems
  • Experience working in cross-functional Agile or stage-gate environments

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with modular and scalable power systems
  • Knowledge of busbar design, fault-current bracing, and thermal management
  • Experience with UL certification and seismic requirements (e.g., IEEE 693)
  • Background in data centers or other mission-critical environments
