Summary
The Primary purpose of this position is to respond to questions and resolve basic issues pertaining to Income Verification (IV) process; provide eligibility and benefits information; provide guidance on completing a financial assessment and other related services to Veterans, their family members and/or representatives, the public, and VA employees. This position is located within the Member Services, Health Eligibility Center and Income Verification Division (IVD) in Smyrna, GA.

Duties
  • Receive telephone calls from and respond to Veterans, their families, and/or legal representatives concerning income verification case inquiries.
  • Make follow-up calls to financial institutions and companies to provide requested information.
  • Make calls to Veterans to solicit information germane to their IV cases when requested by Legal Administrative Specialist (LAS or Contact Representative (CR), commonly known as Case Managers (CM).
  • Determine appropriate action in resolving issue(s) through in-depth research, interpretation and analysis of Enrollment data base (EDB) information and information contained within Enrollment System (ES).
  • Explain process of submitting forms and evidence/documentation that is required.
  • Refer and/or escalate inquiries, requiring adjudication and case-specific analysis or decision.
  • Serve as a mentor and aid in training entry level representatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week- Monday through Friday-8-hour shifts between 6:00AM - 5:30PM
Telework: This position may be authorized for Telework - as determined by the agency policy. (Ad-hoc telework). Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position you must meet one of the following:
Specialized Experience: Possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience includes receive telephone calls from and responding to clients, their families, and/or legal representatives concerning income verification inquiries; making follow-up calls to financial institutions and companies to provide requested information; making calls to clients to solicit necessary information germane to their income verification; determining appropriate action in resolving issue(s) through in-depth research; explaining process of submitting forms and evidence/documentation that is needed and required; refer and/or escalate inquiries, requiring adjudication and case-specific analysis or decision.
OR
EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Possess four (4) years of successfully completed education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. (Transcript required at the time of application.)

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Possess a combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience, as described above, to meet total qualification requirements for the GS-5. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. (Transcript required at the time of application.)

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
