Russ & Daughters BrooklynJob Description: Porter 1Job Summary:

The Porter1 maintains cleanliness of all areas and equipment, disposes of all refuse and recycling as directed by the Production Manager and other Management Staff.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Maintains cleanliness of all work areas, bathrooms, and shared spaces; in accordance with the processes as directed by Managers and Supervisors to ensure safe sanitation standards throughout the facility. Completes cleaning log throughout the day.
  • Sets up and maintains all dishwashing stations, including dish machines, sinks and other related equipment; properly and safely using cleaning solutions.
  • Assists in food, equipment, and other material receiving and stocking; ensuring products delivered are as invoiced.
  • Cleans, stocks/restocks, and breaks down work location throughout and (in particular) at end of shift leaving space clean, stocked, and ready for next shift.
  • Possesses a positive attitude and works in cooperation with all co-workers efficiently and effectively.
  • Performs any additional assigned related duties.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Basic understanding of or the ability to learn basic sanitation and regulations for workplace safety to maintain a spotless personal and general workspace (including all equipment) in compliance with DOH regulation as well as rigorous internal health and cleanliness standards.
  • Basic understanding of or the ability to learn food handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures using standard recipes.
  • Basic understanding of or the ability to learn how to use/operate, maintain, and clean culinary equipment including, but not limited, knives, scales, mixers, ovens, stoves.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain personal hygiene, health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to communicate with coworkers and kitchen leadership.
Education & Experience:
  • High school or vocational school coursework in kitchen basics such as food safety, preferred.
  • Prior related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of standing and working in a kitchen/bakery.
  • Exposure to extreme heat, steam, and cold present in a kitchen/bakery environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to work weekend, holiday, and periodic extended hours as business needs require.
  • Manual dexterity to cut, chop, and mix foods and perform other related tasks.
