Job description

Summary
This position is located in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Fleet and Family Readiness Program, Fleet Readiness Department in the Fitness/Sports and Deployed Support Department, at Naval Station Newport, Newport RI. The purpose of this position is to maintain and operate clean indoor and outdoor fitness/aquatic facilities/spaces.

Duties
Help
The incumbent of this position performs a variety of tasks both indoors and outdoors to assist the Fitness Director on site serviced to keep facilities and grounds surrounding the fitness facilities and sport fields in a continuing state of cleanliness.
May operate a variety of power operated tools and equipment to maintain outdoor facilities i.e. chain saws, hedge trimmers, tillers, hoes, chippers, snow blowers, tractors, trucks, pressure washers, etc. Ensures equipment is serviced prior to use and makes adjustments or minor repairs or replacing worn or damages parts as necessary.
May provide all or some of the following duties; loading, unloading, transporting, storing supplies and stocking shelves. May perform, sweeping, mopping, dusting customer service areas, lobbies, exercise room, bathrooms, showers, locker rooms by sanitizing, disinfecting and deodorizing lavatories, urinals and toilet bowls, and ensuring soap dispensers or paper towel holders are filled and ready for patron usage. May provide general maintenance such as touch up painting, replacing light bulbs, washing/drying and replenishing towels, stocking soap/paper towels and toilet paper as necessary.
May perform general tasks for outside areas, fields and surrounding grounds .such as cutting grass, edging/weeding, raking, shoveling snow as necessary and removing trash from receptacles as needed. May line fields, sets bases, secure windscreens, installs goals/goal posts, move bleachers, and make repairs as necessary or directed.
May vacuum carpeted areas, buffs floors and other floor surfaces using automatic waxing or buffing machines. May wash walls, windows, blinds and other surfaces as necessary using ladders or scaffolding to reach high areas.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

A qualified candidate must possess:
Must be 18 years of age and have the ability to follow simple verbal and written instructions to carry out assigned duties independently
Must possess knowledge of basic cleaning and janitorial techniques and procedures.
Must possess the ability to work with basic equipment, materials and supplies used in maintaining the assigned facility in a clean and sanitary state.
Must possess the ability to operate and perform routine maintenance and repair on outdoor equipment used in preparing sports fields and facilities for sporting events.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license at all times and have the ability to operate a variety of automobile vehicles in the performance of duties.
Position may be subject to an irregular tour of duty including weekends and holidays.
Physical activities include but are not limited to standing, walking, bending, turning, stooping, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling and light lifting. Some activities are prolonged in nature. The employee will at times lift up to 50 pounds unassisted, heavier items with assistance.
