Remote Robotics Apprenticeships information

What are the typical responsibilities and learning experiences for participants in a remote robotics apprenticeship?

In a remote robotics apprenticeship, participants can expect to work on hands-on projects such as programming robots, troubleshooting hardware, and collaborating virtually with engineers and mentors. Apprentices often engage in simulation-based tasks, code reviews, and remote hardware testing, which help them develop both technical and communication skills. The structure usually includes regular virtual meetings, progress check-ins, and opportunities to contribute to real-world robotics solutions, providing valuable exposure to industry-standard tools and workflows.

What is the difference between Remote Robotics Apprenticeships vs Robotics Technicians?

AspectRemote Robotics ApprenticeshipsRobotics Technicians
Required CredentialsOften include basic certifications, training programs, or on-the-job learningTypically require technical certifications or associate degrees in robotics or electronics
Work EnvironmentPrimarily remote, involving online training and virtual mentorshipOn-site or in-field work at manufacturing or research facilities
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by companies offering entry-level training programs to develop future techniciansEmployed directly by companies to maintain and repair robotic systems

Remote Robotics Apprenticeships focus on providing foundational skills through remote training, preparing individuals for entry-level roles. Robotics Technicians are experienced professionals working directly with robotic systems, often requiring specific certifications and on-site work. The apprenticeship serves as a stepping stone toward a career as a robotics technician.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a remote robotics apprenticeship, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Remote Robotics Apprenticeship, you need foundational knowledge in robotics, programming (such as Python or C++), and mechanical or electrical engineering principles, often supported by relevant coursework or a degree. Familiarity with CAD software, robot simulation tools (like ROS), and version control systems like Git is typically required. Strong problem-solving ability, self-motivation, and effective written communication are critical soft skills for remote collaboration and learning. These competencies ensure successful project contributions, skill development, and effective teamwork in a distributed work environment.

What is a remote robotics apprenticeship?

Remote robotics apprenticeships are training programs where participants learn robotics-related skills and gain hands-on experience through online platforms, rather than at a traditional in-person worksite. Apprentices work with mentors, complete projects, and collaborate with teams using digital tools and simulation software. These programs can include areas like programming, mechanical design, automation, and artificial intelligence, all facilitated remotely. They are ideal for those who want to enter the robotics field but may not have access to local opportunities or wish to work from home.

We have standardized on Kuka bots that use Visual Studio to layout and program robotic G-Code to make pre and post processing events happen with Plastic and parts from CNC machines. These solutions need to be developed in 3D with supporting 2D documentation. If you can home a work-piece, set G54, set up cutters, design 3D fixtures, and CAM debur paths in Fusion360, let's talk about spreading your wings into robotic programming. You need to be super organized and be able to communicate with your lead developer we assign to your project.
