Position Overview
We are seeking a Principal UI Engineer to drive the design and implementation of our front-end architecture and user interfaces. Experience with Ruby on Rails is a plus.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development and maintenance of the front-end architecture and a reusable React component library.
  • Write clean, modular ES6+ JavaScript and React code to implement user interfaces and client-side logic.
  • Translate designs into responsive, accessible HTML5 and CSS3 (including modern layout techniques and preprocessors where appropriate).
  • Integrate front-end components with backend services via REST or GraphQL APIs, and collaborate with backend engineers to define contracts and performance expectations.
  • Drive frontend performance optimization, accessibility (WCAG), cross-browser compatibility and mobile responsiveness.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, run and participate in code reviews, and improve the teams CI/CD and testing practices (unit, integration, and E2E tests).
  • Mentor, coach and guide other engineers, help grow technical skills across the team, and contribute to hiring and onboarding activities.
  • Partner with product managers and UX/design teams to scope features, estimate work, and deliver high-quality user experiences on schedule.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional front-end development experience with significant hands-on experience in React.
  • Industry experience with healthcare, telemedicine, pharmacy, or digital health services highly preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript (ES6+) and client-side patterns.
  • Expert knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3, including responsive design, Flexbox/Grid, and cross-browser issues.
  • Proven experience integrating with RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL.
  • Experience with front-end testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress) and familiar with CI/CD workflows.
  • Track record of driving technical decisions, leading projects and mentoring engineers in a team setting.
  • Proficient with version control using Git and familiarity with build tools (Webpack, Vite, or similar).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a product-focused mindset and attention to detail.
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Nice to have: hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails or working knowledge of Rails conventions and APIs.
