Employee Relations & Accommodations Specialist - Remote

Job Overview:

The Employee Relations & Accommodations Specialist will be an integral part of the North America Employee Relations team at ADM, and responsible for managing the interactive process for workplace accommodations in support of employees seeking religious accommodations under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and accommodations for employees with disabilities related to state and federal disability, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) including changes by the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), and other appropriate laws. This role will provide subject matter expertise to leaders and colleagues on accommodations topics and regularly advise Human Resource Business Partners and managers on how to address related issues. This role involves developing and implementing employee relations compliance strategies, policies, and procedures while also providing guidance and support to HR teams and senior leadership. This position will ensure that project and team milestones and goals are achieved on time and while adhering to approved budgets.
Additional responsibilities also include providing guidance on policy interpretation and revisions, performance management, conflict resolution, and code of conduct concerns. The role emphasizes proactive coaching and risk mitigation to support effective leadership.
Under the guidance of senior team members, the Specialist may assist with investigations involving harassment, discrimination, and policy violations, contributing to resolution strategies and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
ADAAA/Title VII Compliance (70%)
Manage the end-to-end reasonable accommodation interactive process in collaboration with the Legal and internal/external leave administration teams, ensuring compliance, consistency and equitable treatment of employees seeking religious accommodations under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and/or employees with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAAA).
Investigation Management (15%)
Serve as the team's case management administrator by triaging all matters submitted to the Employee Relations team through the ADM Way HelpLine or shared mailbox, and routing issues for appropriate handling.
Provides investigation support as needed for employee complaints, and allegations of misconduct in a timely and impartial manner, ensuring adherence to internal investigation protocols and legal requirements.
Policy and Procedure Monitoring (10%)
Ensure that practices, policies, and procedures (i.e. labor law posting requirements) are compliant with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Data Analysis (10%)
Analyze employee relations data (i.e., accommodations requests, complaints, disciplinary actions) to identify trends, patterns, and potential compliance risks to drive proactive ER strategies and continuous improvement.
These percentages indicate the projected distribution of responsibilities for each function and may shift as departmental needs evolve.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Training and Education: Support the content development and delivery of employee relations training programs and materials for HR teams, colleagues, and managers on topics such as accommodations process, harassment prevention, diversity and inclusion, and workplace conduct to promote awareness of legal obligations and best practices.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Work closely with HR data & analytics team and external partners to manage the relationship and to provide timely responses to internal audit requests and HR compliance reports to management and regulatory authorities (i.e. EEO-1, AAP, VETS, etc.) summarizing employee relations activities, including investigations, outcomes, and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Vendor Management: Oversees applicable third-party vendor relationships, including onboarding, performance monitoring, contract compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Colleague Support: Provide guidance and assistance to HR professionals, managers, and employees on compliance-related matters, including interpretation of policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, internal audit, and operations, to address compliance-related issues and initiatives and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Law, or a related field.
  • Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP, AWI) is a plus.
  • 8+ years' experience in reasonable accommodations management and a minimum of 5 years' experience in Employee Relations, HR Compliance, or related areas, preferably within heavy manufacturing and/or large organization with significant hourly workforce.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. employment policies/procedures and related federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to Title VII, ADA, ADAAAA, FMLA, FLSA, and EEOC guidelines.
  • Experience leading the reasonable accommodation interactive process under the American with Disabilities Act.
  • Experience in tracking compliance requirements on an ongoing basis, including changes in legislation and responding to any employment law related compliance notices.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to identify trends and compliance risks.
  • Unquestionable integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism in a wide variety of situations.
