Job description

tldr; We build software for Airbnbs to rent themselves, with a state-of-the-art product and user experience.

We have crafted an Applicant Handbook, which we highly recommend you check out, where you can find out more about the company, culture, how we recruit, what we do, and how we do it: https://hsptb.com/hndbk

We believe in the value of team diversity and seek candidates from a wide range of backgrounds in their work, life, culture, and experiences.

We are bold, like risks, and take on big challenges together. Our customers love the product, provide valuable feedback, and trust us to rapidly help them with more of their problems.

Feel free to join in one of our upcoming Townhalls on YouTube to experience it for yourself: https://hsptb.com/twnhll

About the team

Our Front-End Product Engineers are roamers, they move between projects and teams as needed, working on the things that will deliver the most value to customers. The last bastion of the product experience and the first thing our customers see, we are looking for some of the best product-focussed Angular engineers in the business.

"Working at Hospitable is both the most intense and the most rewarding professional experiences of my life. The momentum isn't for everyone, neither is the laser focus on shipping value, but the right person will flourish and grow here more so than just about anywhere else." - Nik, Principal Product Engineer.

What you will be working on

You will be an important part of our product and engineering team, focusing on delivering magical user experiences to our hosts.

We are currently a fully-distributed team of 5 product managers, 25 backend engineers, and 4 frontend engineers. We're hiring for this role to help us keep pace with the amazing work that our product and backend engineers are delivering.

After a few weeks onboarding, you'll dive right into feature development; building, improving and owning the experience that we deliver to hosts and their guests.

  • Partner with product, sales, customer success and other engineers to develop, ship and own features that solve problems for our hosts.
  • Help us shape the product - Use your knowledge and skills to help shape and improve something. (You won't get perfect specs and be expected to just execute on them)
  • Move fast, look for opportunities to simplify, figure out how work can be broken into smaller chunks to ship an MVP sooner, or provide value to hosts faster.
  • Work with Aryeh whose favourite fruits are Strawberries.
  • Use your engineering chops to build magical user experiences, ship them, iterate on them, take ownership and accountability for making sure they are as good as they can be.
  • Implement and use observability tooling to help you achieve the above. We use PostHog and Sentry to help us track and debug production features.
  • Provide input on how the frontend codebases can be maintained and improved

As an engineering team we are all in on Laravel and Angular. Our self-defined tech stack acronym is PALM-B; PHP, Angular, Laravel, MySQL and Beanstalk.

Requirements

Hospitable.com is a remote-only and distributed company. For this position, your location is not a requirement. The ideal fit would be based in, and work under, European timezones.

If you're hesitant to apply for this position because you feel that you don't meet this list of qualifications fully, don't worry! We want to hear from you.

  • A 'shipping' mentality - you get kicks from seeing real customers using your features, receiving feedback from them and iterating/improving on it.
  • Your compass points towards customer and business value, over perfect code (if such a thing exists)
  • We build in Angular, so experience with modern Angular, RxJS and Tailwind.
  • Bonus points if you've worked much on hybrid mobile apps (Ionic or similar), or worked with web components.
  • Everything else is a lovely bonus that we're excited to hear about!

Benefits

The company itself is also a product, one that we iterate on. We're always improving and creating an environment where we all love to work.

  • A supportive, radically transparent, and caring team environment, where you are trusted, not managed-and a culture that is focused on results and output.
  • The total budget for this role is within $134,450.00 - $167,258.30 depending on the cost of living in your location. We can hire talent internationally as contractors-or employees if you are based in the United States, the European Union, or Australia, taking into account payroll taxes to determine your gross compensation. This means that for US employees, the gross salary could be anywhere between $123,995.91 to $154,253.22.
  • We also offer options into the company equity through our $HOST token (RSU's) with a current grant value of up to $76,026.50 to share in the long-term upside value of the company.
  • Separately, this role is eligible for up to an additional $387,944.00 per year in Performance Share Units (PSUs). These PSUs do not vest over time and are granted only upon the achievement of clearly defined business performance targets. The size and payout of this award are directly tied to measurable outcomes and are intended to strongly align compensation with company impact.
  • For US employees: healthcare (including EPO, PPO and HSA), 401(k).
  • 35 days off per year, encouraged (including self-serve public holidays) and parental leave.
  • Complimentary mental health and emotional support with therapists on call through Slack by Spill.
  • Earn virtual coins through our peer recognition platform and redeem them through gift cards, donations, or monetary rewards.
