Job description

MORE THAN A JOB. A CAREER THANT CHANGES LIVES
160 Driving Academy is the largest CDL training school in the country - 14 years strong, 90+ locations across 32 states, and roughly 20,000 students earning their commercial driver's license with us every year. We graduate at an 88% first-time pass rate because we take the work personally.
Behind every one of those graduates is a working adult who chose to bet on themselves - a parent looking for stable income, a veteran starting a second career, a worker pivoting out of an industry that was no longer hiring. They picked up the phone, called us, and someone on the other end of the line treated their question like it mattered.
And then they showed up at a yard. The yard is where our students spend their days - behind the wheel, on the range, learning the trade. Making every yard a place worthy of that moment - clean, safe, welcoming, and built to teach - is one of the biggest priorities in this company, straight from the CEO. The National Yard Planning Manager is the person who delivers it.
This is a role for a total executor: someone who walks a yard and sees what a student sees, plans everything that yard needs, and then drives the improvements through to done.
ABOUT THE NATIONAL YARD PLANNING MANAGER ROLE
As National Yard Planning Manager, you own the whole yard experience. You find and secure new yards that deliver an elevated student experience, consolidate the ones we have, and exit the ones that no longer fit. For every yard that matches our new experience profile, you plan 100% of what needs to happen - paint, signage, landscaping, student shelters, power, sanitation, buildings, training lanes, and the assets that fill them - to deliver a warm student experience.
You are the right hand to the VP of Yards & Instruction, and you work through the Regional Yard Managers to execute - setting the plan, tracking every asset and task, and holding the field highly accountable for delivery. You partner with procurement on ordering, with local commercial realtors on the lease pipeline, with local permitting authorities on building and signage, and with the Director of Compliance for oversight.
This is a remote position, but the job lives in the yards. You are our eyes and ears in the field - walking yards as a student would, spotting what needs fixing before anyone has to ask, and reporting progress weekly.
WHAT YOU'LL DO AS THE NATIONAL YARD PLANNING MANAGER ROLE
Yard Experience & Upgrades
  • Plan 100% of what each yard needs to deliver a warm student experience - paint, signage, landscaping, student shelters, electricity and power, sanitation, buildings, and training-lane layout.
  • Plan and place yard assets, including tables, chairs, desks, lighting, ADA ramps, outside seating, shelters - all branded - and everything that turns a yard into a classroom.
  • Walk every yard as a student would; identify way finding, signage, and paint needs so yards never look shabby, and track repairs through completion.
  • Work with procurement to order yard assets; own delivery, installation, and physical security to prevent theft.
  • Track assets and open tasks across all yards - into the details, always.
  • Reach out to yard staff directly regarding major issues requiring remediation.

Real Estate, Budgets & Execution
  • Find and evaluate new yards that fit our elevated student experience profile; consolidate current yards and exit expiring locations.
  • Manage lease expirations and work with local commercial realtors, always looking six months ahead at upcoming expirations.
  • Weigh yard profitability in every real estate decision and improvement; align every project with the budget.
  • Work with local permitting authorities on building and signage permits; keep the Director of Compliance informed for additional oversight.
  • Execute improvements through the Regional Yard Managers and hold them highly accountable for delivery.
  • Track and report progress weekly to the VP of Yards & Instruction.

Performance & Expectations
  • You are the right hand to the VP of Yards & Instruction - and the company's eyes and ears in the field for yard improvements.
  • Upgraded yards where the yard becomes the classroom are a major priority for the CEO; this role delivers on that vision and executes flawlessly.
  • Be a total executor who sees ahead and is self-managed, balancing many projects, yards, and moving pieces simultaneously.
  • Performance is measured by yard-upgrade delivery, asset and repair tracking accuracy, lease-pipeline management with a six-month lookahead, budget adherence, and weekly reporting discipline.
  • Regional Yard Managers execute your improvement plans; you set the standard, follow up relentlessly, and hold them accountable.
  • This is a remote position with frequent travel to yards nationwide; the job is completed on the ground, not from a desk.

Requirements
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Background in CDL, adult training, or career-training environments.
  • Financial acumen with the ability to weigh profitability, budgets, and lease economics in every decision.
  • A total executor who sees ahead, self-manages, and handles multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to yards nationwide.
  • Ability to balance frequent travel while completing required reporting and tracking responsibilities.

Preferred
  • Commercial real estate, lease negotiation, or site-selection experience.
  • Facilities, construction, or capital-project management background.
  • Experience working with procurement teams, vendors, and installation contractors.
  • Familiarity with local permitting processes for buildings and signage.
  • Experience managing distributed field teams according to established deadlines and standards.
  • Asset-tracking or project-management system experience.

WHY 160 DRIVING ACADEMY?
We train the people America runs on. Truck drivers move the food, the medicine, the building materials, and the everyday goods that keep this country working. Helping a student finish the program and land a job is helping them step into a stable, well-paying, in-demand career - often the first one they've had.
Our 600+ WIOA partnerships, our work with veterans and second-chance candidates, and our reputation with carriers across 32 states are all experienced in one place: the yard. This role ensures that the first impression - and every day after - demonstrates that we take our students seriously.
If you want to do work that matters, build something you can drive past and point to, and be part of a company that is actively investing in its people - we want to talk.
