Responsibilities

We are seeking a Sr. DevOps Engineer to join our infrastructure team supporting critical systems at USCIS, where you'll tackle complex technical challenges and build automated solutions that matter. As a Sr. DevOps Engineer you will mentor fellow engineers, architect scalable infrastructure solutions, and work alongside a collaborative DevOps team supporting 14 development teams. This is an opportunity for a self-motivated engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments and wants to make a meaningful impact on systems that serve thousands of federal workers.

Responsibilities:

  • Responding to infrastructure support requests; Triaging and investigating complexities
  • Supporting our ecosystem by performing tasks such as Ubuntu hardening, Terraform provisioning, automation via AAP (Ansible Automation Platform) and making updates to address vulnerabilities
  • Communicating with peers on issues, following/managing multiple MS Teams threads
  • Participating in daily and weekly agile ceremonies including standups, backlog grooming, and retrospectives
  • Supporting our ecosystem by performing tasks such as OS (Windows, Ubuntu, or any other Linux systems) hardening, deploying infrastructure with Terraform, Provisioning AMIs, making updates to address vulnerabilities
  • May need to support monthly patching on weekends (approx. 2 hours, team members will flex time during week)
  • Possession of strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to proactively document knowledge
  • Ability to clearly articulate technical solutions to peers
  • Ability to work in a high-speed delivery focused environment

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Ability to receive DHS EOD suitability
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Possession of strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a high-speed delivery focused environment
  • Ability to work on a fully remote team and maintain delivery tempo
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Experience in the following is necessary:
    • CI/CD automated pipelines 
    • AWS and its services (EKS, ECS, RDS, SQS, SES)
    • IAC Frameworks like Terraform and/or Cloudformation
    • Experience using and implementing Infrastructure As Code
    • Containerization best practices
    • Git or alternative source code repositories

Secondary Qualifications:

  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools including New Relic and Splunk
  • Kubernetes or other container orchestration platform experience
  • Knowledge of streaming platforms like Kafka
  • Database administration experience (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB)
  • Familiarity with JIRA and Confluence
