Company Summary

Arizona Connections Academy (ACA) is a tuition-free, online public school serving students in grades K–12 throughout Arizona. ACA is authorized under state law by the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools and governed by an independent Board of Directors. The school is operated by Arizona Connections Academy, a nonprofit corporation, through a contract with Connections Academy of Arizona, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services. Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED, and ACA is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement.

Position Summary

The Dean of Students serves as a member of the administrative team and assists with the daily operation of the school, specifically in the areas of attendance, behavioral, and disciplinary prevention and intervention services with an emphasis on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). 

Other activities and responsibilities may be delegated by the principal.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or skills associated with this position, but is intended to accurately reflect the essential job elements. Any combination of the job functions shown below may be performed. 

Essential Functions 

  • Work closely with the assistant principals to support the implementation of the behavioral intervention framework.  
  • Communicate with students, parents, and staff in a timely manner regarding student behavior and truancy. 
  • Assist in the implementation of policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to student behavior and truancy. 
  • Provide instructional resources and professional development to staff on topics related to behavior management plans and strategies.
  • Serve as an expert on PBIS implementation and strategies, and advise the administration on next steps and ways to improve student behaviors and engagement. 
  • Assist teachers and administrators in facilitating and monitoring progress on academic probation, including holding study halls or executive functioning lessons for students as necessary. 

Additional Job Functions 

  • Maintain a commitment to learning about best practices in student management and truancy.
  • Attend meetings to engage in conversations involving student behavior and attendance. 
  • Participate in professional growth to improve skills related to the job assignment. 
  • Meet with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives. 
  • Make recommendations concerning the revision and updating of student code of conduct, rules, regulations, and handbooks. 
  • Perform such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct, including entry of behavior events in the student information system, and producing and sending documentation related to behavior events to families as required by policy or statute. 
  • Participate in the organization and administration of State Testing.
  • Attend field trips and other community activities implemented for families
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Principal. 

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Master’s degree is preferred
  • Arizona teacher certification
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast paced environment
  • Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office products)
  • Experience in managing people a plus
  • Ability to travel as-needed
  • Ability to work remotely
  • Must be able to use a personal electronic device and an email address for two-step authentication.
