Remote Container Terminal information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Container Terminal Operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Container Terminal Operator, you need strong spatial awareness, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent, often supplemented by specialized terminal operations training. Familiarity with terminal operating systems (TOS), remote crane control software, and safety protocols is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help operators coordinate with teams and respond to unexpected challenges. These skills ensure safe, efficient cargo movement and minimize operational disruptions in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working at a remote container terminal, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working at remote container terminals often face challenges such as coordinating operations across different time zones, managing communication with on-site teams, and quickly resolving technical issues from a distance. To address these, it’s important to develop strong digital communication skills and become comfortable using remote monitoring and control systems. Building a structured workflow, participating in regular virtual team meetings, and fostering relationships with both remote and on-site colleagues can help ensure smooth operations and efficient problem-solving.

What are remote container terminals?

Remote container terminals are advanced port facilities where operations such as loading, unloading, and moving shipping containers are managed remotely, often using automation and digital control systems. Instead of traditional on-site workers, operators use remote control stations—sometimes located far from the terminal—to manage cranes, vehicles, and other equipment. This technology improves efficiency, safety, and flexibility in port operations while reducing the need for physical presence on the terminal grounds. Remote container terminals are becoming increasingly popular as ports seek to modernize and handle greater volumes of global trade.

What is the difference between Remote Container Terminal vs Remote Dockworker?

AspectRemote Container TerminalRemote Dockworker
CredentialsLogistics, shipping, or port management certificationsLogistics, shipping, or port operation certifications
Work EnvironmentOffice-based, overseeing port operations remotelyOn-site at ports or terminals, physically handling cargo
Industry UsagePort authorities, shipping companies, logistics firmsPort terminals, shipping lines, freight companies
Job FocusCoordination, management, and oversight of container operations remotelyPhysical handling, loading/unloading containers at ports

The Remote Container Terminal role involves managing port operations remotely, focusing on coordination and oversight, often requiring logistics certifications. In contrast, Remote Dockworkers are typically on-site, physically handling cargo. Both roles are integral to port logistics but differ in work environment and responsibilities.

Job description

DevOps Engineer (AI-Native, Builder Mindset)

Location: Remote

Company: Driver AI

Type: Full-time

Introduction

At Driver, we're building systems that turn source code into human language. The tech stack includes a core compiler-like engine, a heavily asynchronous/distributed backend server, and a frontend web application that provides a rich user experience.

About Us

We're an early-stage startup backed by Y Combinator and Google Ventures that combines first principles technical approaches and applied LLM expertise to tackle context engineering at scale. Driver builds the context layer for employees and AI agents alike to use in developing software.

Working at Driver

We're an AI-first startup building the latest in AI assisted development technology. Our team moves fast, experiments constantly, and uses cutting-edge AI tools to accelerate development and operations. We care deeply about craftsmanship, curiosity, and people who genuinely love working with computers.

The Role

We're not looking for a traditional "pipeline babysitter."

We're looking for a DevOps engineer who codes, builds, and experiments-someone who understands systems end-to-end and enjoys optimizing them. You'll help design, deploy, and scale infrastructure while actively leveraging AI tools to move faster and smarter.

This role sits at the intersection of infrastructure, software engineering, sales engineering and AI-assisted workflows.

What You'll Do
  • Design, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure (primarily AWS)
  • Build and automate CI/CD pipelines and deployment systems
  • Write code (Python, Go, or similar) to improve tooling and workflows
  • Manage and optimize Linux-based systems in production
  • Configure and troubleshoot networking (DNS, firewalls, routing, etc.)
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems
  • Improve developer experience and internal tooling
  • Leverage AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) to accelerate operations and engineering workflows
  • Continuously refine infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency
  • Manage bi-weekly releases
  • Work with sales engineering to optimize customer on boarding and automation.
What We're Looking For Core Technical Skills
  • Strong experience with Linux systems (you're comfortable living in the terminal)
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls, load balancing)
  • Hands-on experience with AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, etc.)
  • Experience deploying and managing production services
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code (CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)
  • Experience with containers (Docker) and ideally orchestration (Kubernetes or ECS)
Engineering Mindset
  • You write code, not just configs - you communicate with infrastructure through code
  • Comfortable scripting and building tools to solve problems
  • Experience with at least one programming language (Python, Go, Rust, etc.)
AI-Native Thinking
  • Actively uses AI tools to enhance productivity
  • Curious about how AI can improve workflows, automation, and debugging
  • Open to experimenting with new tools and approaches
Who You Are
  • A computer enthusiast-you enjoy tinkering, optimizing, and learning
  • You care about clean systems and elegant solutions
  • You're proactive and don't wait to be told what to fix
  • You thrive in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
  • You communicate across silos to coordinate and achieve resolution
  • You have a minimum 3-5 solid years of experience in devops, software engineering, and/or computer engineering. Senior devops roles open as well for candidates with 7-10+ years experience
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
  • Experience in startups or small teams
  • Contributions to open source or personal projects
Why Join Us
  • Work on real AI-driven products from day one
  • High ownership and autonomy
  • Opportunity to shape infrastructure and engineering culture
  • Opportunity to work in other roles and develop new skills
  • Small, sharp team that values builders
Benefits
  • Competitive Compensation Packages - Cash & Equity
  • Flexible Work Culture
  • Unlimited Time Off + 12 Paid Company Holidays
  • Insurance - Health, Dental, & Vision
  • Life Insurance & FSA Accounts
  • 401(k) Retirement Accounts - Traditional, Roth, or Both
  • Quarterly Team Offsites
