About the Position

The Social Media Producer will play a crucial role in expanding the social media program for More Perfect University, More Perfect Union’s new campus program, and driving conversation about economic justice, corporate power, free speech, tenant and labor organizing, and more for a college-aged audience. They will be responsible for identifying, creating, and packaging content for Instagram, TikTok, X, Bluesky and more, and ensure that More Perfect University’s pages are full of newsy, informative, and revelatory content on a daily basis. Additionally, they will support the distribution of More Perfect University’s video content. The Social Media Producer must be highly creative and enthusiastic about reporting news that impacts young people. They should be an excellent writer and editor and an innovative content creator, with demonstrated knowledge of audience engagement strategy.


Core Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Campus Program Manager and Campus Creator Lead, develop and execute social media strategies that engage and expand More Perfect University’s audiences;
  • Closely monitor a broad range of sources — media outlets, podcasts, YouTubers, newswires, trade publications, cable shows, legislative hearings, and so on — for important, interesting, or underreported information that More Perfect University should elevate;
  • Scour social media for newsworthy, user-generated content relevant to our mission and college students, such as first-person storytelling and footage from protests or labor actions;
  • Create highly engaging, news-centric social media content for Instagram, Bluesky, TikTok and X on a daily basis, including packaging graphics, rapid response clips, and more;
  • Support the distribution of More Perfect University’s short-form videos, including scheduling posts across platforms and drafting posts for Instagram, Twitter and Bluesky;
  • Make strong editorial decisions about what news to prioritize every day and how to frame stories in an accurate and compelling way;
  • Maintain an informative and engaging voice for More Perfect University across social media, uphold strict editorial standards, and ensure content is extremely relevant to our audience and the news cycle;
  • Monitor analytics, audience sentiment, and social media trends, and translate learnings into actionable insights;
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines;
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of experience working in social media strategy and storytelling, preferably in a newsroom;
  • Strong understanding of best practices, algorithms, and metrics of major social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter/X, and Bluesky. Experience with additional platforms such as Substack, Reddit, and others is a plus;
  • Demonstrated experience in significantly expanding followers and engagement on social media pages;
  • Basic graphic design experience;
  • Working knowledge of best practices and software for graphic design and video editing, including Canva, Adobe Suite, Descript, CapCut, and in-app software on TikTok and Instagram;
  • Strong pulse on Gen-Z culture, motivations, interests, frustrations;
  • Familiarity with social media management and analytics tools such as Sprout Social and RivalIQ;
  • Excellent written and impersonal communication skills;
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage many priorities at once;
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, work-from-home environment;
