This role is centered on PHP and Magento 2/Adobe Commerce back-end development, including custom modules, APIs, integrations, MySQL, performance, deployments, and production support.
This is a strong fit for a developer who enjoys solving practical business problems across commerce, data, ERP integrations, order flow, and customer experience. It is not primarily a front-end role, although working JavaScript knowledge is required for troubleshooting and cross-functional development work.
What You Will Do
  • Build, maintain, and enhance Magento 2/Adobe Commerce back-end functionality using PHP.
  • Develop custom modules, services, cron jobs, integrations, API endpoints, and automated business processes.
  • Work with SQL/MySQL to troubleshoot data, improve queries, support reporting, and maintain data integrity.
  • Use XML, dependency injection, events/observers, plugins, and established Magento development patterns.
  • Develop and support GraphQL and REST APIs connecting Magento with NetSuite, Celigo or similar middleware, payment, loyalty, CMS, marketing, and operational systems.
  • Manage PHP dependencies with Composer and development environments with Docker.
  • Use Git, pull requests, code review, testing, and deployment workflows to deliver reliable changes.
  • Troubleshoot production issues across application, database, API, and integration layers and complete root-cause analysis.
  • Improve caching, indexing, query efficiency, API performance, platform reliability, and overall e-commerce performance.
  • Use working JavaScript knowledge to troubleshoot storefront behavior and collaborate with front-end developers.
  • Partner with IT and business teams to turn operational needs into practical, maintainable technical solutions.
Required Experience and Skills
  • 3-6+ years of professional back-end web development experience; production e-commerce experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong PHP development experience.
  • Hands-on Magento 2/Adobe Commerce back-end development experience.
  • Strong SQL/MySQL skills, including joins, query analysis, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with XML configuration, GraphQL APIs, and REST APIs.
  • Experience with Composer, Docker, and Git.
  • Working JavaScript knowledge.
  • Strong production troubleshooting, debugging, root-cause analysis, and communication skills.
Helpful Experience
  • NetSuite, Celigo or similar middleware, ERP, payment, loyalty, CMS, or marketing-system integrations.
  • Adobe Commerce Cloud, CI/CD, Linux, AWS, GCP, Redis, Varnish, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, message queues, or Magento indexing and caching.
  • Large product catalogs, inventory, pricing, promotions, checkout, orders, fulfillment, and reporting workflows.
  • React, Next.js, headless commerce, GraphCommerce, PWA Studio, Hyva, or similar front-end frameworks.
  • E-commerce security, privacy, PCI, and secure coding practices.

Location and Schedule
  • On-site Monday through Friday at our Easton, PA headquarters.
  • Core business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Occasional flexibility may be needed for deployments, critical deadlines, or urgent production issues.
  • On-call coverage may occasionally include evenings, weekends, or holidays.
  • A hybrid schedule may be considered for the right highly qualified candidate after discussion; this role is not fully remote.
Why Join Famous Cigars
  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Meaningful ownership of Magento, PHP, database, integration, and production-support work.
  • Direct impact on customer experience, site reliability, checkout, and internal operations.
  • Cross-functional exposure and long-term platform growth opportunities.
