The Wisconsin Veterans Home in King (WVHK) is seeking a Buildings/Grounds Superintendent, to serve as the Facilities Maintenance Director. The Home is a 24/7/365 skilled nursing, long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. The facility is located on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O'Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton. Come lead our dedicated team!

Position Summary
Interested in building your career while serving Wisconsin veterans?
Under the general supervision of the Veterans Home Commandant, this position plans, coordinates and oversees buildings and grounds maintenance, repair, and improvement on the WVHK campus. This includes the supervision of skilled and semi-skilled staff in areas such as construction, electrical systems, communications and alarm systems, elevators, durable medical equipment maintenance, vehicle maintenance, and four-season grounds maintenance. The incumbent also provides maintenance support as needed across functional lines, assists with weekend and evening call-in rotations, and assists and supports campus events and improvement initiatives. Additionally, this position coordinates building maintenance projects with campus staff and building management and/or contractors, manages the work order system, and assigns work to maintenance staff to ensure timely completion of tasks and a safe environment and compliance with building and Life Safety codes.

Salary Information
Starting salary will be between $84,489 and $90,480 per year, depending on candidate qualifications.
Buildings/Grounds Superintendent is in pay schedule-pay range 81-03.
Pay will be set in accordance with the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan in effect at the time of hire. Pay for current State employees may vary based on applicable provisions in the Compensation Plan.
Job Details
This position works a base schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and requires adjusting or increasing work hours to meet the facility's needs .
Job duties include lifting objects up to 75 pounds; carrying objects up to 50 pounds; bending, squatting, stooping, and/or crawling; entering and working in confined spaces; and climbing stairs and ladders. There is exposure to physical and chemical hazards.
Work is performed on site. Remote work is not available.
Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.
Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
A 12-month probationary period may be required.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications that will be reviewed in the first step of the process are experience:
  • Planning and performing facilities & grounds maintenance (e.g., construction, electrical, grounds, automotive, interior, exterior, repair, lawn, garden, roads, sidewalks, etc.) ; and
  • Supervising and/or mentoring staff (e.g., developing performance standards, evaluating training needs, handling discipline and corrective actions, interviewing, hiring, motivating staff to expand skill set, etc.)
Preferred qualifications that will be reviewed in the first step of the process are experience:
  • Planning and performing all-seasons grounds maintenance; and/or
  • Communicating in a professional setting
Additional qualifications that will be reviewed in next steps of the process are experience:
  • Interpreting and following building, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Life Safety codes *
  • Planning and directing building projects/facilities operations *
  • Performing budgetary and/or procurement functions
  • Establishing and maintaining teams
  • Interpreting and following nursing home buildings and grounds regulations
