Job description

As a Data Warehouse Engineer, you are responsible for developing integrations using enterprise Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) tools to meet business requirements.   You have an advanced understanding of one or more of the tools in the enterprise ETL toolset and can create very complex integrations.  You mentor junior members of the team on development techniques and set standards and design patterns for the rest of the team to follow.  You are a thought leader on the team and consistently lead and challenge others on the team to drive towards efficient and supportable solutions.

  • Develop integrations that use standards and design patterns defined by the technical team and that meet all approved requirements and design specifications
  • Unit test developed integrations to ensure they are meeting defined requirements for business rules and performance expectations
  • Provide accurate estimates for work assigned to you, meet agreed deadlines and specifications, record accurate time and communicate to project management when any issues arise that prevent you from meeting agreed timelines or agreed specifications
  • Support developed EDW/BI applications to ensure 24/7 delivery of those applications and notify stakeholders when issues arise with delivery of those applications or defined service level agreements.  Solicit help from team members when troubleshooting issues outside of your area of expertise
  • Mentor junior developers and reviewing code
  • Organize project or support team meetings to discuss production issues or design considerations
  • Provide accurate estimates for work assigned to you and others, meet agreed upon deadlines, record accurate time and communicate to management when timelines will not be met by you or the team
  • Define standards and design patterns to be used by the technical team
  • Translate a Functional Specification into a Technical Specification provided by a Business Analyst
  • Perform as a thought leader on the team by leading design sessions and challenging designs of others in a respectful manner to get an optimal design
  • Keep an enterprise view of the company’s data by driving towards common data definitions and design and developing reusable reporting and integration assets.

Skills

  • 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering or data warehousing.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience in developing complex queries.
  • Proficiency in Python (PySpark), specifically with ETL pipelines
  • Intermediate experience in Shell scripting to perform file operations and run shell commands.
  • Develop and manage ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as AWS Glue and Databricks that power the Data Lakehouse Architecture.
  • 3+ years of experience with cloud data warehouses such as AWS Redshift, Snowflake, Synapse.
  • Experience working with structured and semi-structured data (Parquet, Avro, JSON, Delta) and open table formats such Apache Hudi, Delta Tables.
  • Experience working with AWS services such as S3, Redshift, Glue, Secrets Manager, Cloud Watch, and EC2.
  • Experience in performing Pipeline Orchestration using tools such as Stonebranch Universal Automation Center, Lake flow, or Air Flow.
  • Strong understanding of version control (Git) and modern CI/CD workflows.
  • Ability to lead design and review sessions and provide constructive feedback to others as it relates to coding standards and industry best practices
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand requirement documents and technical specifications and translate those into code.
  • Experience working with Agile/Scrum teams a plus.
