We are recruiting for a Underwriting Consultant - Construction, to join our team. This role will be hybrid if near a local office or for the right candidate can be remote from most locations in the U.S.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides specialized property and casualty underwriting consultation to Amerisure's underwriting teams, ensuring alignment with underwriting strategy, profitability, and premium goals. Leads coaching, training, and quality initiatives to enhance underwriting expertise and decision-making.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate underwriting decisions across lines of business, exercising a high level of field underwriting authority with Construction expertise.

  • Provide coaching and guidance to field underwriters on complex exposures, ensuring alignment with Amerisure's Underwriting Philosophy.

  • Conduct field quality audits as required by the established field quality program, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring adherence to underwriting standards.

  • Identify opportunities to enhance underwriting quality within the field, collaborating with internal partners to create and implement training and development initiatives.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in underwriting training programs, contributing to the design, development, and execution of training sessions for underwriters.

  • Collaborate with industry practices, product development, and risk management teams in the creation and enhancement of new products, forms, and services.

  • Collaborate with corporate underwriting team to assess business needs, providing recommendations for enhancements to underwriting controls, risk appetite, and underwriting tools to support the organization's growth and profitability objectives.

  • As needed, manage a designated book of business, ensuring underwriting decisions align with company strategy and profitability goals.

  • Evaluate and secure facultative reinsurance as needed to mitigate risk and maintain the financial integrity of the organization.

  • Act as a key underwriting resource in cross-functional discussions to enhance underwriting processes, automation, and operational efficiencies.

  • Utilize underwriting analytics and emerging data sources to enhance risk selection, pricing, and portfolio management.

  • Provide insights and recommendations based on underwriting trends, loss experience, and emerging risks to refine underwriting strategies.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work-related experience

  • 5 years commercial property and casualty underwriting experience.

  • Must have Construction underwriting expertise.

  • Desire to develop deep knowledge and demonstrate thought leadership in designated specialty

  • AU, CIC, ARM, CRM, CRIS or CPCU designations preferred.

  • Proficient computer skills required, including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated successful ability to organize and prioritize work to ensure timely deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal skills include the ability to effectively build relationships across all levels of the organization.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to deal with ambiguity.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with internal and external customers.

  • Travel required up to 10%
