Job description

Introduction
The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. Corrections employees have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others through careers in a variety of fields. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill an Electrician position. This position is based out of Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, WI.
Position Summary
Under the general direction and supervision of the Buildings / Grounds Superintendent, this position is responsible for performing work assignments as a Master Electrician at Dodge Correctional Institution (DCI). This skilled trades position is entrusted with a high level of responsibility. Tasks include inspection, installation, analysis, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repair of all facility electrical devices, appliances, equipment and system components (i.e. wiring, lighting, switches, receptacles, motors, pumps, switchgear, transfer switches, transformers, power distribution systems and components, etc.) throughout the institution complex and property. T his position will report and make recommendations on lighting and power controls, installations, modifications, etc., to further enhance the institution energy conservation efforts. This position will also a ssist other maintenance department personnel in routine tasks when necessary. Occasionally t his position will coordinate the work of, and provide direction, training, instruction, and limited supervision of, Facilities Maintenance personnel, inmate workers, or Limited Term Employees regarding maintenance tasks, repair work assignments, and / or projects related to electrical systems and equipment. This position may also provide occasional support to area DOC Correctional Centers as needed. This position must maintain all applicable State and Federal certifications necessary to work on the above equipment and systems.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position will sometimes work within a wide range of temperatures (extreme hot and cold), in dusty, dirty, or confined areas or areas that may be quite noisy. This position will also work within close physical proximity to PIOC and other staff members.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule and range 04-00 with a starting pay of $48.11/hour, $48.89/hour, or $49.67/hour, depending on the amount of annual leave time the hired candidate selects. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.
Must have the ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs. This may include weekends, holidays, and on-call hours.
This position has physical requirements related to performing the job duties that involve being able to move and lift freely to perform necessary inspections and repairs, including climbing ladders and stairs.

  • Must possess a valid Master Electrician license from the State of Wisconsin, Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS). This license must remain active during employment.
