Job description

Position Overview

GreenSpark Finance is a modern accounting and CFO firm serving fast-growing ecommerce, CPG, retail, and consumer brands. We partner with founders and leadership teams to deliver outsourced accounting, financial operations, and strategic finance support.

We're building an accounting practice that combines strong technical accounting with AI, automation, and modern technology to create better outcomes for both our clients and our team.

We're looking for an experienced Client Controller to lead accounting delivery for a portfolio of high-growth clients.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll oversee monthly closes, review financial reporting, mentor staff, solve complex accounting issues, and help build scalable accounting processes. While the role includes leadership responsibilities, you'll also be comfortable rolling up your sleeves to support client work when needed.

As GreenSpark grows, you'll play a key role in shaping our accounting practice, developing our team, and implementing new technologies that improve efficiency and client service.

This is a fully remote opportunity. To ensure strong collaboration with our team and clients, candidates must reside on the U.S. East Coast.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the monthly close and financial reporting process for a portfolio of clients.

  • Review financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting workpapers.

  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for clients, auditors, lenders, and tax advisors.

  • Research and resolve technical accounting issues, including revenue recognition, inventory, lease accounting, and other GAAP matters.

  • Coach and develop accounting staff while reviewing their work for quality and accuracy.

  • Lead new client onboarding, accounting transitions, and system implementations.

  • Drive continuous improvement through AI, automation, and modern accounting technology.

  • Develop standardized processes and best practices that enable GreenSpark to scale while maintaining exceptional quality.

  • Jump into day-to-day accounting work whenever needed to support the team and our clients.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:

  • Takes ownership and enjoys solving complex problems.

  • Is equally comfortable leading, reviewing, and doing the work.

  • Enjoys building processes and improving systems.

  • Embraces AI and emerging technology to improve efficiency and client service.

  • Thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Communicates confidently with founders, executives, and teammates.

  • Wants to help build a modern accounting firm and grow into a leadership role as the company expands.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and month-end close.

  • Experience reviewing financial statements and workpapers.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and client relationship skills.

  • Advanced Excel skills.

  • CPA.

  • Experience with ecommerce, CPG, retail, manufacturing, or subscription businesses.

  • Experience in public accounting, Client Accounting Services (CAS), or outsourced accounting.

  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Bill, Shopify, Amazon, TikTok Shop, Stripe, Ramp, inventory systems, and other cloud-based accounting platforms.

  • Currently reside on the U.S. East Coast.
