About Us:

Hello! We're the Justice Information Technology Services (JITS) team, we provide vital Information Technology (IT) infrastructure which Montanan's rely upon to support state and local law enforcement. Our dynamic team manages IT systems, services, and interfaces to support approximately 900 DOJ employees, and over 3,000 Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN) customers working together to safeguard Montana! We directly support DOJ staff involved with legal cases concerning the State and its people, Montana missing persons, victim services, children's justice, consumer protection, criminal investigations, highway safety, motor vehicle licensing, gambling control, and forensic laboratory services.

Job Overview:

The Software Developer Supervisor analyzes, implements, and oversees software solutions for the Department of Justice. The incumbent will work with staff to develop, create and modify computer applications or specialized utility programs, including GIS. They will analyze needs and resources available then develop a solution that optimizes operational efficiency. They may analyze and design databases within an application area, working individually or coordinating database development as part of a team. The position will build, maintain, test, or modify geographic information systems (GIS) and databases by integrating geospatial information with other specialized data sets or applications. Additionally, it will deploy and support GIS systems and applications in areas of specialty, such as agriculture, health care, firefighting, economics, or wildlife. The incumbent will technically support users and analysts on GIS systems and applications.

The strengths of individual candidates will be balanced with the needs of the Division. Candidates with demonstrated experience in Software Development, Coding, Computer Programming, GIS, and other directly applicable experience are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate is someone with proven ability to perform technical requirements and successfully fill supervisory functions such as providing leadership, motivation, technical assistance, guidance, organization, mentoring, coaching, and training to a team of Software Developers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Information Technology-related field.

  • Four years of experience with software programming and software modification or four years of experience working with or managing GIS systems.

  • Two years of related supervisory experience.

  • Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Forward-looking towards low code/no code solutions

  • PostGres experience

  • GIS experience
