Job description

Library Branch Assistant

Assists in the daily operation of the Library branch and in providing services to children, youth, parents, and caregivers. Performs circulation duties and assists Library customers. Provides educational services to children 17 and under, and their caregivers.

Performs circulation tasks such as checking in/out library materials, checking in courier delivery, collecting fines, issuing new cards, pulling holds, and processing new books and periodicals

Performs customer service tasks such as answering the phone, answering directional questions, and assisting customers in the library

Processes payments, reconciles cashiering drawer and assists with deposits

Schedules meeting spaces and registers customers for classes/programs/events

Provides library services including readers' advisory, answering reference questions, assisting customers with computers and copier, helping customers find print and digital materials, and planning and implementing programs

Provides services for youth, including classes, events, and outreach such as Summer Reading, Storytimes and other programs

Performs upkeep and cleaning of Special Collections (i.e. Adventure Packs, TonieBoxes®/Tonie Character Sets, Discovery Kits, Wi-Fi Hotspots, etc.)

Creates displays and marketing materials for related programs and events

Performs collection maintenance such as shifting, discarding and weeding

Prepares monthly reports, statistics, and general correspondence

Shelves materials

Performs other clerical duties as needed

Performs other related duties as assigned

Associate degree supplemented by three to five years of library experience, and/or an equivalent of education, training, and experience

Experience with and a working knowledge of best practices for providing library services to customers ages 0-17

Exemplary customer service skills

Excellent computer skills

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and office equipment

Must be able to pass required pre-employment physical and background check
