Cindependent is Cincinnati's nonprofit home for independent film.Through the Cindependent Film Festival, year-round artist development, educational programs, and stewardship of the historic Mariemont Theatre, we connect people through stories that inspire curiosity, empathy, and conversation.

Our purpose is simple: create places where strangers become friends through film.

The Mariemont Theatre is our year-round home - a five-screen nonprofit cinema dedicated to independent film, community programming, education, and cultural experiences.

Position Summary
The Marketing Manager tells the story of Cindependent every day.

Supporting both the Mariemont Theatre and the Cindependent Film Festival—with an emphasis on year-round theatre marketing—this position creates compelling campaigns that grow audiences, strengthen membership, and deepen community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Execute marketing campaigns for theatre programming and the annual film festival.
  • Manage social media across Cindependent and Mariemont Theatre platforms.
  • Create email newsletters and website updates.
  • Design promotional graphics and printed materials.
  • Coordinate press opportunities and community calendars.
  • Support advertising campaigns and audience growth initiatives.
  • Capture photo and video content.
  • Maintain the theatre website and event listings.
  • Collaborate with Programming to tell the stories behind films and special events.
  • Assist with advertising, fundraising, membership, and donor communications as needed.

Qualifications

We're looking for a creative storyteller who understands how thoughtful marketing can build community and grow audiences.

Required

  • 2+ years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.
  • Experience managing social media platforms for an organization or brand.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Basic graphic design experience using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Squarespace Email Campaigns, or similar).
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (Squarespace, WordPress, or similar).
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across departments.
  • Availability to work select evenings and weekends during major events, festivals, and theatre programs.

Preferred

  • A natural curiosity about storytelling, independent film, and the role arts organizations play in strengthening communities.
  • Experience marketing arts, entertainment, nonprofit, hospitality, or cultural organizations.
  • Photography and videography skills, including capturing and editing content for social media.
  • Experience with Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, and digital advertising.
  • Knowledge of ticketing, event marketing, or audience development.
  • Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Premiere Pro.
  • Experience writing press releases and working with local media.
  • Passion for independent film, arts, and community-building.
