Job description

Job Title: Emergency Department (ED)
Location: Milwaukee, WI
Shift: 12hr Day Shift (36)
Shift Information: 0700-1930Duration: 13 Weeks
Position Overview
  • Location: Milwaukee, WI

  • Unit: Emergency Department (ED)

  • Shift: Dependent on requisition (No call required)

  • Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend rotation

  • Holiday Rotation: 2 out of 4 major holidays, or every other

  • Floating: None

Compensation & Logistics
  • Dress Code: Any professional color scrubs

  • Parking: Free parking provided in designated employee areas

Key Responsibilities & Patient Care
  • Manage a dedicated 1:4 patient ratio in the main ED (acuity-based) or a 1:6 ratio in the Fast Track unit.

  • Provide high-quality care to a diverse patient demographic ranging from neonates to geriatrics.

  • Manage a complex mix of patient diagnoses, including a heavy mental health population and high-acuity trauma cases (GSW, stabbings, falls, MVC).

  • Stabilize and prepare high-acuity invasive neuro and STEMI patients for immediate transfer to a sister facility (St. Luke's).

  • Utilize EPIC charting, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing systems.

Job Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of recent ED experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

  • First-Time Travelers: Considered on a case-by-case basis with strong, proven clinical experience.

  • Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC must be active prior to start date.

  • Preferred Skills: Prior experience with ED Triage is strongly preferred.

  • Core Competencies: Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV placement, critical care drips, TPA administration, blood administration, procedural sedation, and responding to Code Blue emergencies.

This 228-bed teaching hospital is a designated Level IV Trauma Center, Level III NICU, Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, and an Accredited Geriatric Center.

You will be fully supported on shift by a robust 24/7 care team, including:

  • ED Physicians & Mid-Level Providers

  • 24/7 dedicated ED Techs (phlebotomy & glucose checks) and Unit Secretaries

  • 24/7 Respiratory Therapy (RT)

  • Dedicated ED Educator & on-site PT/OT/ST support

  • Phlebotomy teams to assist with traumas and difficult blood cultures

  • A dedicated Charge Nurse (who rarely takes a patient assignment)

  • Top-tier security with a home base locked right in the ED lobby for your safety
