What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time pastor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Pastor, you typically need a background in theology or ministry, strong scriptural knowledge, and experience in pastoral care, often supported by formal religious education or ordination. Familiarity with church management software, digital communication tools, and worship planning systems is valuable. Compassion, integrity, strong communication, and the ability to inspire and counsel others are standout soft skills in this role. These qualifications and skills are essential for effectively leading a congregation, providing spiritual guidance, and managing ministry responsibilities within limited hours.

How do part time pastors typically balance ministry responsibilities with other professional or personal commitments?

Part-time pastors often juggle church duties with additional jobs or family obligations, making time management essential. They usually focus on core pastoral responsibilities such as preaching, leading services, providing spiritual care, and coordinating key church activities, while delegating or collaborating with church staff and volunteers for other tasks. Open communication with the church leadership about workload and clear prioritization of responsibilities can help maintain a healthy balance. Flexibility and strong organizational skills are highly beneficial in ensuring both ministry and non-ministry commitments are met effectively.

What does a part time pastor do?

As a part-time pastor, your duties and responsibilities depend on your congregation. Similar to a full-time pastor, your job is to preach and aid in services the church provides. You might lead worship, lead special services like baptisms, or help the primary pastor with duties like communion. The benefit of working part-time is that you have an open schedule, freeing your time up to pursue other interests and passions. You also have the option of working for multiple congregations and handling special services and revivals. Being a part-time pastor is an excellent way to tell if this line of work is right for you.

Both roles are essential in faith-based settings and often overlap in responsibilities.

What is a part time pastor?

Part time pastors are clergy members who serve a church or religious organization on a part-time basis, rather than working full time. Their responsibilities often include leading worship services, providing spiritual guidance, and performing ceremonies like weddings and funerals, but their hours and duties are typically limited compared to full-time pastors. Part time pastors may also have other jobs or responsibilities outside of their pastoral work, and their schedules are usually flexible to fit the needs of both the congregation and the pastor.

Join an amazing church family that loves the Lord and loves to worship Him. Parkside is looking for a worship director who can lead the ministry of music and worship across all age groups.
YOUR ROLE
The Worship Director/Pastor is primarily responsible for cultivating and growing a culture of authentic, Spirit-led praise and worship. Worship ministry is a vital extension of our mission to intentionally connect people every day with the love of Jesus. The Worship Director must work closely with the Lead Pastor to ensure that there is consistency in our corporate worship times and in how we transition from worship to the message. The Worship Director/Pastor will have oversight, input, and involvement, in developing the worship ministry of our church across all ages.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan and lead worship for Sunday morning service(s).
• Coordinate and lead weekly practices using Planning Center Online.
• Ensure the stage is appropriately set up for each practice and service.
• Maintain a clean and orderly stage environment.
• Recruit, equip, and train volunteers.
• Coordinate with Lead Pastor and Tech Lead to ensure a smooth flow of service for both on-campus and broadcast needs.
• Ensure all aspects of the service are loaded into ProPresenter.
• Support other ministries in developing worship programs, i.e. youth, and children's church.
• When requested, provide worship or special music for Celebration of Life services and weddings.
• Fill in admin roles as needed to include, but not limited to, assisting with clerical duties, and assisting the Lead Pastor as needed.
• The total scope of music ministry development will depend on whether the applicant is part or full-time.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Follower of Jesus Christ, bearing fruit consistent with a life dedicated to Him.
• Motivated, self-starter who can accomplish goals without constant supervision.
• Must have excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to execute, while still being flexible and led by the Holy Spirit.
• A team-oriented, humble, and creative leader.
SALARY
$30,000 annually for a part-time position based on 20 hours/week (potential for more hours depending on the candidate).
WHAT WE WANT FOR PARKSIDE CHAPEL
Many churches offer a vibrant worship experience, which is then followed by a watered-down, soft presentation of the gospel. Or conversely, have worship that is shallow, flat with seemingly no experiential value, but offers a strong theologically sound, gospel-centered message. There are seemingly very few churches that offer both a powerful worship experience and a strong gospel-centered message that challenges us and causes us to grow in our faith. We believe we should strive to have both.
ABOUT US
Parkside is a part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination which is also referred to as The Alliance. Around the world, The Alliance family celebrates Jesus. As one of our own says, "There is no heart He cannot reach, no wound He cannot heal, no bondage He cannot break..." Jesus said He came for the sick, not the well (Mark 2:17), and we've experienced His divine restoration. That's why we're passionate to take His good news-in word and deed-to those desperate for hope in every segment of our broken world. The heartbeat of Parkside, along with the rest of the CMA, is to be an equipping and mobilizing church that brings the transforming love of Jesus intentionally and relationally to all.
