Join the Johnson County District Attorney's Office and play a vital role in supporting public safety and the criminal justice system. We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable part-time Criminal History Specialist II to assist with processing and maintaining criminal history records and providing critical support to prosecutors. This 20-hour-per-week position requires working every Saturday from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the remaining scheduled hours determined based on operational needs. - Conducts legal and factual research into criminal history records of suspects and/or defendants, cases, and records using a variety of legal resources and computer programs; verifies citations in legal memoranda and briefs; interprets and creates accurate summaries of criminal history; determines availability and search ability of various fields within a record; examines DUI criminal history records to determine DUI cases needing to be filed as felony charges; obtains or disseminates criminal history information (e.g., arrests, warrants, dispositions, etc.) in response to internal and external requests; and corresponds with court systems to request certified copies of conviction records.

Provides administrative assistance for investigative efforts, including using various databases and contacts to locate witnesses and suspects for subpoena service or interviews.

Conducts pre-employment and mandatory employee annual record check requests.

Performs required record-keeping functions; maintains a log of transactions of all terminals entering or receiving information; and monitors and records access and dissemination of criminal record information in order to maintain security compliance with federal and state laws.
Required
Associate's degree in the following field(s) of study: Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies, Business Administration, Public Administration, Office Administration, or related field.
Kansas Highway Patrol CJIS, TAC, and LASO training.
Two (2) years of experience in conducting criminal history checks and interpretation.
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in the following field(s) of study: Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies, Business Administration, Public Administration, Office Administration, or related field.
Education may be substituted for experience.
Experience may be substituted for degree.
