What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Part Time F1 position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time F1 (Foundation Year 1 Doctor), you need a recognized medical degree, provisional registration with the GMC, and solid clinical knowledge. Familiarity with NHS electronic medical records, prescribing systems, and hospital protocols is typical for this role. Strong communication, teamwork, and time-management skills help navigate shift work and interdisciplinary patient care. What is a Part Time F1 job?

A Part Time F1 job typically refers to a part-time position available to international students in the U.S. who are on an F1 visa. F1 students are generally allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during the academic term and full-time during holidays, but only in on-campus jobs or specific off-campus roles authorized by USCIS, such as CPT or OPT. It’s important to check with your school’s international student office to ensure compliance with visa regulations.

What typical shifts and responsibilities can I expect as a Part Time F1 Doctor?

Your key responsibilities include clinical assessments, managing patient clerking and documentation, prescribing medication under supervision, and liaising with senior doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Part-time arrangements may offer greater flexibility for work-life balance, but you will still be integrated into a multidisciplinary team and participate in essential ward duties and handovers. This structure provides valuable firsthand experience in diverse medical specialties while allowing more personalized scheduling.
