Job description
General Job Brief:
The responsibilities of the Advance Bands are to lead ACU Chapel worship, perform at special ACU scheduled events, lead Prayer and Worship events, and promote ACU at scheduled off-campus events (ie. Youth Worship Services, Christian School Chapels, Church Worship Services, etc). This band consists of our best singers and instrumentalists and is expected to perform at high levels of musicianship and presentation.
This role also requires a comprehensive understanding of and commitment to the unique Christian mission and vision of ACU to Transform Culture with Truth, and the ability to advance that mission and vision through the performance of its duties, including person-to-person mentorship and discipleship.
Typical Duties:
If you make the band, this will be a serious commitment of your time and responsibility. This will have to be a priority in your schedule. Semester responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Attend Advance Band Orientation (1 week before classes begin)
• Lead ACU Chapels each semester
• Perform special ACU scheduled events each semester (ie. Homecoming, Worship Clinic, etc)
• Perform scheduled off-campus events (ie. Christian HS Chapels, Youth services, Church services, etc.)
• Band members are expected to be enrolled in "MEA300-1 - Advance Band" each semester
• Band members must be enrolled in Applied Lessons on their performing instrument each semester
• Promote ACU music program to prospective students and families
• May be required to participate in additional performance ensembles as needed (ie. Praise Bands, Pep Band, Drum Line, etc). Chair of Music Department will direct ensemble assignments
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Completing other duties and tasks with utmost integrity and professionalism, as directed, and not necessarily mentioned in this description, may be asked on a volunteer basis.
- Commitment to the University's faith statement, mission, and purposes; and an active Christian faith.
- Comfort and familiarity with the practice of praying with and for others, including students, faculty, and fellow University staff.
- The ability to meaningfully support and encourage students, faculty, and staff from a biblical worldview perspective, using relevant and applicable references from the Old and New Testaments and orthodox Christian writings.
- Demonstrated alignment with and enthusiastic support for the Christian Mission and Core Commitments of the University, including signing the University's Statement of Faith and Core Commitments annually.
Education and Experience:
• Current student of ACU in good standing - SAP
Ability and Skills:
• Preparedness - your parts learned and memorized
• Musicianship and musicality
• Confidence and stage presence
• Worshipful hearts, authenticity, and humility
Time Required:
• Student will average up to 10 hours per week of Fall/Spring Semesters performing various Music Department activities.
• Participate in 2 team rehearsals a week
• Commit to weekly practicing instrument and memorizing parts
Fair Labor Standards Act:
This position is part-time, non-exempt for overtime pay provisions as provided by the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and any applicable state laws.
