The University of the Cumberlands seeks qualified candidates for part-time faculty positions in our Masters program in Computer Science. Successful candidates will hold an earned Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems and have a strong background in online course instruction at the graduate level. Part-time faculty members will be responsible for teaching a variety of courses in both online and executive formats, including residency weekend class sessions.
Responsibilities:
  • Course Instruction: Deliver high-quality instruction in online and executive formats for graduate-level courses in Computer Science. Courses include Computer Architecture and Design, Algorithms and Data Structures, Software Engineering and Multiplatform App Development, Secure Software Development, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, Artificial Intelligence, Principles of Cybersecurity, and Big Data/Data Mining.
  • Student Engagement: Foster a dynamic and interactive learning environment, promoting student engagement and critical thinking. Regularly communicate with students and provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments, projects, and assessments.
  • Residency Weekends: Participate in residency weekend class sessions as part of the executive format. Engage with students during face-to-face interactions, ensuring a positive and enriching experience. The University hosts weekend residencies at various locations across the US.
  • Student Support: Offer academic support to students through office hours, online communication, and other appropriate means. Facilitate discussions, address inquiries, and guide students in their academic and professional development.
  • Professional Development: Stay abreast of developments in Computer Science educational technology, and pedagogical best practices. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching effectiveness.
  • Other Duties and Responsibilities: As may be assigned by the University.

Qualifications:
  • Ph.D.: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems (ABD or other fields do not meet this qualification).
  • Significant Online Teaching Experience: Demonstrated experience in developing and teaching online graduate-level courses, preferably in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • US Citizenship or Legal Permanent Residency: Candidates must be US citizens or legal permanent residents and reside in the US.
  • Expertise: Strong expertise in one or more of the following areas: Mobile Application Development, Software Engineering, Operating Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Cybersecurity, and Computer Networking.

Required Skills/Characteristics:
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, D2L).
  • Values consistent with the mission of the University.
