Advanced BGA Rework Lab Technician

Advanced BGA Rework Lab Technician

Position Overview

  • Role Type: Part-Time / Contract
  • Hours: 20-30 hours per week (Flexible scheduling available)
  • Duration:  6 months with extension possible

We are seeking a highly specialized Lab Technician for a part-time contract role. This position is ideal for a precision soldering expert who thrives in a high-tech R&D environment. You will serve as the primary resource for DRAM BGA replacements and high-complexity board modifications, providing critical support to our engineering team on an as-needed basis.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Advanced BGA Rework: Lead the removal, reballing, and replacement of DRAM and SoC components using the Air-Vac DRS25 rework system.
  • Precision Soldering: Perform manual rework of fine-pitch SMT components (down to 0201), including QFNs, connectors, and passives.
  • Engineering Modifications: Execute complex "dead-bug" wiring, trace repairs, and ECO (Engineering Change Order) implementations.
  • Profile Optimization: Maintain and create thermal profiles for the DRS25 to ensure consistent results across various board geometries.
  • Documentation: Maintain a brief log of rework success rates and provide feedback to engineers on board "reworkability" and pad damage.

Technical Requirements

  • Specialized Expertise: Demonstrated mastery of the Air-Vac DRS25 or similar high-end BGA rework stations.
  • Industry Standards: Working knowledge of IPC-7711/7721 (Rework and Repair) and IPC-A-610.
  • Chemical & Lab Safety: Deep familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for fluxes (Rosin/No-Clean) and solvents, and strict adherence to ESD protocols.
  • Microscope Proficiency: Extensive experience performing high-precision work under a microscope for 4-6 hours at a time.

Contract & Schedule Details

  • Workload: Consistent 20-30 hours per week.
  • Flexibility: We offer a flexible start/end time, provided project deadlines are met.
  • Location: On-site at our Andover Lab (This is a hands-on hardware role and cannot be performed remotely).

Key Competencies

  • Efficiency: Ability to manage a queue of rework tasks independently with minimal supervision.
  • Quality First: A "first-time-right" mentality, especially when working on one-of-a-kind prototype boards.

Clear Communication: Ability to update engineering teams on the status of high-priority repairs via email or ticketing systems.
