Job Description
The Pipeline & SWD Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and environmentally compliant operation of pipeline systems, water transfer assets, saltwater disposal (SWD) facilities, and associated equipment. This role supports the transportation, handling, recycling, injection, and disposal of produced water and freshwater while ensuring operational efficiency and system integrity.
The ideal candidate will have experience in pipeline operations, SWD facilities, water transfer systems, or oil and gas production operations. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to work independently in a field environment, and a commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor pipeline systems, transfer pumps, injection pumps, tanks, meters, and SWD facilities.
  • Monitor flow rates, pressures, injection volumes, tank levels, and equipment performance to ensure efficient operations.
  • Conduct routine inspections of pipelines, valves, pumps, meters, tanks, water wells, and associated equipment.
  • Support water recycling operations, including monitoring water quality, tracking throughput volumes, and coordinating operational activities.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and respond to operational issues including leaks, pressure fluctuations, equipment failures, and system upsets.
  • Perform daily line checks and facility inspections to verify equipment integrity and operating conditions.
  • Support startup, shutdown, and maintenance activities for pipelines, transfer systems, and SWD facilities.
  • Collect operational data and maintain daily reports, logs, inspection records, and compliance documentation.
  • Utilize SCADA systems, mobile applications, and operational software to monitor and report facility performance.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs and minor repairs on pumps, motors, valves, generators, and related equipment.
  • Respond to spills, releases, and emergency situations in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain housekeeping and operational standards at all facilities and work locations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, control room personnel, contractors, customers, and field personnel.
  • Operate company vehicles and field equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Identify and mitigate safety, environmental, and operational risks.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training programs, inspections, and emergency response exercises.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, operational procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Perform additional operational duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in pipeline operations, SWD operations, water transfer, production operations, midstream operations, or oilfield operations preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Working knowledge of pumps, valves, pipelines, tank systems, and water handling operations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer, tablet, and mobile device proficiency.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, automation controls, and remote monitoring systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with water recycling operations, treatment processes, and blend water management is a plus.
  • Ability to accurately complete operational reports, logs, and inspection documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to changing operating conditions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating saltwater disposal (SWD) facilities.
  • Experience with produced water gathering and transfer systems.
  • Experience with freshwater distribution systems and water recycling operations.
  • H2S Awareness or H2S Clear certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience with pipeline integrity monitoring and facility inspections.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance and spill response procedures.

Work Environment
  • Field-based position with frequent travel to operational facilities and remote locations.
  • Work performed outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call schedules as required.
  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including flame-resistant clothing, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
