Job description

Job Title: P&C Technician

Department: Field Service

Reports To: Regional Field Service Manager    

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt, Full- Time

Job Summary:  

Responsible for performing commissioning activities as assigned by the project lead. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

·         Assist in the day-to-day commissioning activities being performed on the assigned project. 

·         Become familiar with all applicable policies and procedures to adequately perform commissioning activities as assigned. 

·         Attend project safety and planning meetings as required.  

·         Communicate potential delays or cost overruns to the Project Lead in a timely manner. 

·         Constantly explore new business or customer opportunities.  

·         Must be willing to travel overnight as needed to fulfill job responsibilities. 

·         Identify safety hazards associated with the project and contribute to a task-hazard-mitigation analysis. 

·         Identify human performance risks and contribute to a task-risk-mitigation analysis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

·         Able to provide evidence of assisting with the successful execution of numerous P&C commissioning projects. 

·         Basic understanding of electrical theory and basic protective relaying principals 

·         Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and schematics. 

·         Ability to use a variety of relay test sets and automated relay testing software. 

·         Basic understanding of network communications including TCP/IP, DNP, Modbus and media structures such as Ethernet and Serial over copper, fiber optics, telephone or wireless systems and powerline carrier systems. 

·         Familiar with construction and apparatus testing standards and procedures. NETA III or IV certification is a plus. 

·         Basic understanding of NERC Standards and CIP policies and procedures and required compliance documentation. 

·         Strong working knowledge with common software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with project management software is a plus. 

·         Strong working knowledge with common electrical industry software applications from industry manufacturers such as SEL, GE, Cooper, Novatech, ABB, Siemens, etc. 

·         Must show the ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally with customers and other team members. 

·         Demonstrates organizational skills to include on time reporting of time and expenses, weekly status reports, and any other documentation and reporting requirements. 

·         Demonstrates the responsibility required to maintain a professional appearance as well as keeping tools, test equipment, and vehicles in clean and organized condition and up to date with service and calibrations. 

Work Environment: 

·         Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations. 

·         Must be able to work occasional overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays. 

·         Must be able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out-of-town projects. 

·         Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner. 

·         Must be willing to take calls, give technical advice and schedule workforce outside of the normal workday. 

·         Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs. 

·         Standing, climbing, walking, lifting, carrying, and grasping are all required. 

Education and Work Experience: 

·         Associates technical degree or minimum of 2 years of P&C, project management, substation commissioning or related experience. 

·         Ability to achieve NETA level III or IV within 12 months of employment. 

·         Degree in Electrical Engineering or a College Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology is a plus.

Other Requirements: 

·         Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, education verification, motor vehicle report, an approved hair and urine drug screen, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing. 

·         Must have a valid driver’s license. 

·         Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs. 

·         Must be willing to complete CSTS/ ESTS training & CSA Z462 Arc Flash Training.
