Job description

Come join Intuit as a Staff Software Engineer on the QuickBooks Workforce Solutions team! Intuit acts as a 42 year old startup, and we are constantly disrupting ourselves as we identify major new technology and design trends that are needed to deliver our mission to power prosperity around the world. Our group is a fast-paced team focused on delivering cutting edge capabilities and having fun while doing it.
In this role you will set the technical direction for iOS across a portfolio of products used by millions of small business owners, and shape how we apply AI - both to accelerate how we build and to deliver intelligent, on-device experiences that our customers love.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical vision and multi-quarter architectural roadmap for iOS across Workforce Solutions, and drive it end to end across multiple layers of the stack
- Hands-on development. Write highest quality code with utmost attention to scalability and performance
- Design, architect and implement durable components and shared frameworks that help us deliver beautiful customer experiences faster and with high quality
- Drive significant technical initiatives that span teams - decomposing ambiguous problems, sequencing the work, identifying risks, and clearly communicating trade-offs to engineering and business stakeholders
- Design and ship intelligent features powered by on-device models, and make the call on what belongs on device versus in the cloud based on latency, cost, privacy and offline needs
- Set the strategy for how the team applies AI-assisted development tooling to raise engineering productivity, while maintaining a high bar for code quality and security review
- Raise the engineering bar through code and design reviews, development best practices, and investment in test automation, observability and release health
- Work with the triad of product managers, designers and engineers building the solutions that our customers love to use every day
- Partner with backend, platform and other groups both inside and outside of Intuit for cross-functional design, solution integration and on-boarding of mobile/SaaS/web offerings
- Coach and mentor engineers pursuing the technical career path, and be a role model for technical excellence
- Stay aware of Apple platform trends and annual OS/SDK changes, recommend best practices, share learnings and make strategic technology choices for the mobile organization
Qualifications
- 8 or more years of software engineering experience, with 6+ years building and shipping production iOS applications in Swift, including Objective-C interop in large legacy codebases
- You take pride in creating iOS magic and love exploring mobile device capabilities, the latest advancements in the Swift language, and are curious to know what is happening in the iOS world
- Deep expertise in iOS frameworks and app architecture - SwiftUI and UIKit, Swift Concurrency (async/await, actors), Combine, and the tradeoffs between MVVM, VIPER and unidirectional patterns at scale
- Proven track record architecting modular iOS codebases - feature modularization, dependency injection, and versioned internal frameworks that let many engineers ship in parallel without stepping on each other
- Hands-on experience with on-device machine learning and intelligence on Apple platforms - Core ML, Vision, Natural Language, and the Foundation Models framework for on-device LLM inference
- Practical understanding of the tradeoffs between on-device and server-side inference: latency, cost, offline capability, model size, and the privacy advantages of keeping sensitive financial data on device
- Fluency with AI-assisted development - using coding agents and LLM tooling (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate delivery, with sound judgment about where generated code needs careful review, especially in security- and compliance-sensitive paths
- Expertise with the iOS delivery toolchain: Xcode build systems, Swift Package Manager/CocoaPods, Fastlane, and CI/CD pipelines with automated release trains and phased App Store rollouts
- Strong command of mobile quality and performance engineering - XCTest/XCUITest, snapshot testing, Instruments profiling, crash triage, app size, cold-start latency, and battery/network efficiency
- Experience owning app security and compliance concerns on device: secure storage of sensitive financial data, Keychain, biometric authentication, and secure API/token handling
- Deep customer empathy and ability to quickly translate insights into mockups, wireframes, and working proof-of-concept code
- Expertise in quickly translating design (Figma/Zeplin) into working iOS code, with a high bar for accessibility, internationalization and instrumentation
- Ability to mock out server side dependencies to move fast, plus solid knowledge of server side development processes, tools and technology - including partnering on API and contract design
- Strong bias to action - bring ideas to life quickly through prototyping, experimentation and a JFDI attitude. Basically someone who can get stuff done
- Solid communication skills: demonstrated ability to explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences, and to build alignment across teams without formal authority
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and grow engineers, raise the bar in code and design reviews, and act as a technical role model
- BS/MS in computer science or equivalent work experience
Preferred Experience:
- Experience developing, maintaining and innovating large scale, consumer facing mobile applications with millions of active users
- Experience integrating Apple Intelligence capabilities - App Intents, Writing Tools, Visual Intelligence or Siri integration
- Experience with model conversion, quantization and performance tuning for on-device inference (Core ML Tools, running models efficiently on the Neural Engine)
- Experience shipping LLM-backed product features, including prompt engineering, evaluation harnesses, and handling non-deterministic output in production
- Experience in a large multi-team or monorepo mobile environment, defining standards and shared platform components adopted by other teams
- Experience with A/B experimentation, feature flagging and data-driven release decisions on mobile
- Exposure to cross-platform or shared-code approaches (KMP, React Native) and a clear point of view on when they are and aren't the right call
- Background in fintech, payroll or other domains with strict data privacy and regulatory requirements
