Job description

Chemical Technical Sales – Industrial Chemicals

PICO Chemical, LLC – Chicago Heights, IL

PICO Chemical, LLC is an ISO 9001–certified manufacturer of specialty industrial chemicals and lubricants serving paints, inks, coatings, adhesives, metalworking, steel production, machining, printing, transportation, and related industries for nearly 50 years.

We are seeking a highly driven Chemical Technical Sales professional with real industry application experience. This role requires someone who understands industrial chemical processes, can speak the language of plant engineers and chemists, and thrives in a hunter-style sales environment. You will help grow PICO's footprint by identifying new opportunities, solving customer challenges, and working closely with our in-house chemists to develop custom formulations.

This is an ideal role for an ambitious, self-motivated individual who wants to make a name in the industry, owns their results, and is excited to be highly rewarded for performance. The position offers a hybrid structure with significant autonomy.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive new business development with a hunter mentality—identify, pursue, and close new opportunities.
  • Provide technical sales expertise across PICO’s chemical categories, including:
  • Cleaners & degreasers
  • Lubricants & machining fluids
  • Metal forming lubricants
  • Coating & ink removers
  • Rust inhibitors
  • Adhesion promoters
  • Specialty chemical solutions
  • Deliver on-site plant and field interaction: evaluate processes, troubleshoot issues, collect samples, and document findings.
  • Work directly with PICO chemists to develop and refine custom formulations for customer applications.
  • Manage qualification trials, coordinate lab analysis, and ensure successful implementation at customer sites.
  • Prepare technical reports, surveys, recommendations, and follow-up documentation.
  • Communicate customer needs and application data with sales, marketing, lab, and customer service teams.
  • Build strong relationships across customer organizations—from operators to engineers to executives.
  • Maintain accurate weekly and monthly sales activity reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary information.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support customer and company objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2+ years of chemical, industrial, or technical sales experience (required).
  • Direct application experience in industrial chemicals strongly preferred (cleaners, lubricants, coolants, forming lubricants, coating removers, etc.).
  • Ability to work closely with chemists and labs to develop custom formulations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Proven hunter sales drive—self-motivated, competitive, and eager to win.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Spanish a plus.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Comfortable working independently in a hybrid, self-managed role.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365; Chempax experience a plus.
  • Ability to travel regionally with occasional overnight stays.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

  • 401(k) with company match
