Overnight Databricks information
What is the difference between Overnight Databricks vs Data Engineer?
| Aspect | Overnight Databricks | Data Engineer |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Focus | Data processing, ETL workflows, and analytics using Databricks platform | Building, maintaining, and optimizing data pipelines and infrastructure |
| Work Environment | Cloud-based, collaborative environment with Databricks platform | On-premises or cloud environments, often involving multiple tools |
| Credentials | Knowledge of Databricks, Spark, SQL, Python; certifications helpful | SQL, Python, cloud certifications, data modeling skills |
Overnight Databricks roles focus on managing data workflows within the Databricks platform, often during off-hours for data processing. Data Engineers build and maintain the broader data infrastructure across various tools and environments. While both roles require similar technical skills, Overnight Databricks specialists are more platform-specific, whereas Data Engineers have a wider scope in data architecture.

Job description
We are seeking a Senior Enterprise Architect – Data & AI to modernize our legacy data platforms and shape the target-state architecture for a cloud-native, AI-enabled data ecosystem. This leader will define pragmatic reference architectures, patterns, and guardrails that accelerate delivery—shifting architecture from a "governance gate" to a product-minded enablement function that empowers teams to build secure, compliant, and scalable data products faster.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
- Legacy Modernization & Target-State Architecture: Lead modernization of legacy data platforms into a cloud-native architecture, defining migration strategies, transitional architectures, and decommissioning roadmaps.
- Cloud Data Platforms (Warehouse/Lakehouse): Architect enterprise solutions using modern data warehousing and lakehouse platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, and/or Microsoft Fabric, including workload placement, cost/performance optimization, and resilience patterns.
- Data Engineering Enablement: Establish patterns for ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and observability (batch/streaming), and partner with engineering teams to improve delivery quality and velocity.
- AI-Driven Data Modernization: Apply AI concepts to modernize data engineering and delivery (e.g., intelligent metadata, automated lineage, code assist, testing/validation automation, anomaly detection, and policy enforcement).
- Guardrails, Standards & Reusable Blueprints: Define architecture guardrails, reference implementations, reusable templates, and "paved roads" that teams can adopt with minimal friction.
- Governance-by-Design: Embed security, privacy, risk, and regulatory requirements into architecture patterns and CI/CD practices—enabling "continuous compliance" rather than after-the-fact reviews.
- Stakeholder Leadership: Influence senior stakeholders across business, product, engineering, security, and governance to align priorities, resolve tradeoffs, and drive measurable modernization outcomes.
Qualifications Required Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree in Business or IT, or equivalent education and related training 2. Seven to ten years of architecture/design/delivery experience which includes five years of enterprise architecture experience or seven to ten years' solution architecture experience in technology and security, and five years of banking/financial business domain 3. Comprehensive experience with various architectural domains such as application, data, infrastructure, security and integration 4. Strong analytical and broad architectural skills 5. Strong verbal and written communication skills 6. Strong negotiation/facilitation skills 7. Significant knowledge of current and emerging architecture principles, methodologies and tools 8. Experience as negotiator with vendors for relevant products and services 9. Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking with ability to differentiate feasible from academic solutions 10. Demonstrated thought-leadership skills with the ability to translate high-level business planning information into application needs/solutions 11. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products 12. Ability to travel, occasionally overnight
