Interpreter Multi-Cultural Specialist - Jackson Early Intervention / Early Childhood Special Education - Douglas ESD 



Douglas ESD is accepting applications to fill the position of Interpreter Multi-Cultural Specialist. This position is 225 days per year, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day to begin immediately.

This position is located in Medford.

SALARY RANGE: $26.34 - $33.95 per hour (depending on relevant verifiable experience)
     Position will receive a Spanish stipend upon passing/completion of proficiency test. 






JOB SUMMARY: 
The Interpreter/Multicultural Specialist works with Douglas ESD staff, children and families, and community partners.  The person in this position collaborates with the Eligibility Evaluation Team to obtain referral information, complete the Language Dominance assessment, and schedules evaluations and initial IFSP meetings for Spanish speaking children and families. 


DUTIES: This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job. Full job description attached in Applitrack.  

  • Highly trained and skilled interpreter with excellent written and oral skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Knowledge of and experience with educational systems and terminology (including special education); knowledge of healthcare systems and terminology.
  • Knowledge of typical and atypical child development and the relationship with cultural norms.  Provide feedback to evaluators regarding the child's speech and language usage during evaluations and take language samples in evaluations.
  • Works collaboratively with staff regarding scheduling of evaluations and available services for non-English-speaking children and their families.  Responsible for following established agency procedures and keeping current with changes of policies and procedures.
  • Translates legal and other agency related documents for families and staff.
  • Assists speech-language pathologists with identifying typical and atypical speech and language development in Spanish speaking children.
  • Functions as interpreter and translator of legal and other documents for evaluations, IFSP meetings, home visits and therapy services.
  • Assists with the integration of multicultural families into EI/ECSE service models.
  • Assists families and staff with completing evaluations and other paperwork, screening instruments, and explanation of the referral process.   
  • Assists with the coordination of meetings, programs and events specific to the program as directed.
  • Acts as an agency liaison with the cultural community. Identifies community resources and attends job related community meetings.
  • Functions as the central information source and may be asked to be a trainer for staff and the program on multicultural cultural awareness.
  • Participates/presents/supports the agency program related to cultural parent support groups and meetings.
  • Enters and modifies data into a database of our families and children.  Advises on data entry on EC Web as it relates to language/literacy issues.
  • Oversees maintenance of all transcribed reports and documents.
  • Assist families translate and complete documents related to their children's services.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to and from school locations in the Douglas ESD service area and may be required to travel on overnight assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree preferred or minimum 2 years of experience in a school setting and district office work experience is preferred.
  • Advanced demonstration and knowledge in several areas of the position.  
  • Highly trained and skilled interpreter with excellent written and oral skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Spanish proficiency test will be required if hired into this position.
