Job description

Job Title: Overnight Lathe Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on performing complete setups and operating CNC lathes on an overnight shift, working primarily on small-batch and one-off parts. You will work with Mazatrol-controlled lathes and other CNC platforms to produce high-quality components, ensuring accurate machining, proper tooling, and thorough inspection throughout each run.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full setups on CNC lathes, including selecting and installing tooling, setting offsets, and preparing workholding for each job.
  • Operate Mazatrol-controlled lathes and other CNC lathes to machine parts to specification.
  • Handle multiple setups per shift and efficiently transition between jobs in a small-batch, one-off (onesy twosey) production environment.
  • Interpret and follow machining instructions, programs, and job travelers to ensure correct part production.
  • Monitor machining operations, make necessary adjustments to maintain quality, and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Perform basic programming or editing on CNC controls, including Mazatrol, Haas, and Fanuc, as required by the job.
  • Use manual machining techniques when needed to support production or verify dimensions.
  • Inspect parts using appropriate measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances, and document results when required.
  • Maintain tooling, equipment, and work area in clean and safe condition throughout the shift.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and support continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience running CNC lathes, including full setup responsibilities.
  • Hands-on experience operating lathes with Mazatrol controllers.
  • Ability to perform multiple setups in a single shift in a low-volume, high-mix environment.
  • Competence with CNC programming or program editing on platforms such as Mazatrol, Haas, and Fanuc.
  • Experience with manual machining operations to support production.
  • Strong understanding of tooling selection, setup, and optimization for lathe operations.
  • Proficiency in part inspection using measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Ability to read and interpret machining instructions and follow established processes.
  • Willingness and ability to work an overnight shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with different CNC lathe brands and controls, including Haas and Fanuc.
  • Experience in machining small-batch or custom parts with frequent job changeovers.
  • Familiarity with inspection practices and quality standards in a machining environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills in a production setting.

Work Environment

This position is based in a machining facility on an overnight shift, working primarily with CNC lathes equipped with Mazatrol, Haas, and Fanuc controls, as well as manual machining equipment. The shop is described as well lit, providing good visibility and a safer, more comfortable workspace. You will work around standard machining tools, inspection equipment, and tooling in a production environment that requires adherence to typical shop safety practices and appropriate industrial attire.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $62400.00/yr.
